I mentioned that parlay in someone elses thread a few days ago who had lost a heartbreaker parlay on the final leg with tampa bay lightning in a shootout after they were up 2-0. Hitting that parlay was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I went from being a hardworking college student having the time of his life to a gambling addict thinking the gravy train would never end. Combine that with early online poker success at the time and my social life / grades went down the shitter before i ended up transferring and rebuilding my life as best I could. I even went to a 30 day gambling rehab in prescott arizona to appease my parents which cost a small fortune and knew the whole time I would be back gambling. I stayed clean mb 6 months. A high school principal was in there at the same time and was the vocal leader of the group and seemed like he was going to get his life together after stealing school funds to support his casino habit. It made my heart break when he called me to meet a few months later begging me to loan him a few hundo.

The amount of stress and the amount time consumed by capping and watching the game ruined some relationships that I'll never forgive myself for. It;s hard to be in a serious relationship with someone who is constantly checking score updates every 15 minutes on most dinner dates and who would never go on apple picking or vineyard tastings in the fall bc i didnt want to miss the football games. If I could go back in time and make it so I never won that parlay I would in a heartbeat. It ruined my life.

Your story: been there. The movie the gambler fits me well sometimes but I’ve put safeguards in place so I never lose more than I can afford and I also don’t try to lose and have won a lot some years especially in poker, pot limit Omaha. I’ve caused the worst to my parents though and feel shame for that.
