CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa Two Cedar Rapids men who pleaded guilty to running an illegal gambling ring have been sentenced to prison. Four others have been placed on probation.
Thirty-four-year-old Jerry Burroughs Junior has been sentenced to one-year in prison. Forty-one-year-old Kevin Flanagan was sentenced to eight-months behind bars.
Four other men, 56-year-old Jerry Burroughs Senior, of Cedar Rapids, 38-year-old John Zaspal, of Cedar Rapids, 64-year-old Spencer Lathrop, of Hiawatha, and 56-year-old Paul Hostak of Cedar Rapids, all were placed on probation.
The men were all sentenced last week in U-S District Court in Cedar Rapids.
A seventh man who prosecutors say was the leader of the sports gambling operation has pleaded guilty to illegal gambling and money laundering.
Fifty-one-year-old David Kolsrud, of Cedar Rapids faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced. A date for sentencing hasn't been set.
Prosecutors say the gambling operation received about 43-thousand phone calls between 2001 and 2002.
