Dobbs wouldn't be on the roster if Jones was already the number 2, because they aren't going to carry 4 quarterbacks and Rudolph and Roethlisberger are obviously going to be on the roster. Jones has not been impressive, a good showing by Dobbs and Jones could be out. Jones is the frontrunner, but he is far from guaranteed that spot.

Hes been solid whenever Big Ben is out - small sample - but i think he’s better then most backups around the NFL

I'd say he's been inconsistent, he's not one of the better backups in the league imo, and nowhere near what Pitt had with Batch. I think he's definitely the frontrunner, but Dobbs is a dual threat QB.

Ain’t no such thing as duel threat QB in the NFL- They all stop running at some point -(Wilson/newton for example - Gotta be able 2 throw with accuracy

Wilson and Newton still run a lot - I think there have been successful dual threat QBs in the NFL, Cunningham, Vick, McNair. Mobility in the pocket matters. Dobbs is a big QB too, he's not 210.

I like Pittsburgh +3 at Philadelphia. PIttsburgh has 4 quarterbacks on the roster, Roethlisberger, Dobbs, Jones, and Rudolph. Rudolph and Roethlisberger will obviously be on the roster so this game generally be a battle between Dobbs and Jones for the #2 spot since its not likely a contender like PItt will want a rookie as the #2 QB. Foles is not playing either. Sure, Sudfeld struggled in that sole start for the Eagles. But you can't really say he's worse then Pittsburgh's backup QB's because of that. They haven't really done shayt in this league either.

I think qb's playing in this game are quite even. Supporting cast will be the ones deciding this one imho. And Eagles are better there I believe.

Pittsbrugh roster is very top heavy. huge dropoff from starting O-line to backups. Heyward Bey and justin Hunter 3rd and 4th receivers

. Image how bad are the rest if they couldn't beat out these two guys.

You look at the defense and there's no depth there either. Most of the teams have at least one solid group. I don't see one in Steelers D

Jones has done far more in this league than Sudfeld, that's not a debate. Callaway hasn't done anything either. Jones has had quality starts in NFL regular season games, so to say he hasn't done more than the Eagles 3rd and 4th stringer is wrong. Dobbs is a dual threat QB, and dual threat quarterbacks tend to be good players to back when they need to run to get a contract or make a roster.

I think you can debate which team is deeper but I'm getting 3 and I'm getting the better quarterbacks. I also don't see the Eagles being as sharp as Pitt since Pitt is coming in off a disappointing season.

I agree with you that dual threat quarterbacks tend not to have long careers, but you can still be successful in the NFL as a dual threat QB, you just won't likely has a long career. Vick too Atlanta to the NFC championship game, Kapernick was good first couple years in the league. This is preseason, Dobbs will do what it takes to try and make the roster.

but at this level its a talent thing and not a motivation thing
