Nobody'd be able to keep their mouths shut if this were true. I'm not denying that it's happened in the past, especially in college sports, obscure soccer leagues, and tennis, but they've been outed and documented.

It's just a coping mechanism that people use to explain why their wagers lost. It's an example of "Correlation does not imply causation," I guess.
