Fair Catch inside 25 yard line goes as a Touch back on 25 yard line?

This is going to kill some mediocre power 5 schools that don't have offense but strong defense.

I'm thinking of schools like Iowa, LSU, Stanford....schools that actually play a field position game and here we are basically penalized serious field position for making an otherwise spectacular special teams play if one gets a kick inside the 10 or so.

It's a bailout for flag football teams. Whole game going to be a Washington State type of game soon. 70 passes per.

I agree. It's a very unusual new rule. Don't really see why they made it?

Probably to cut down on violent collisions. If you can fair catch it and get the ball at the 25 I can see this coming into play on most kickoffs. Why would you not take the yardage? Its not like most teams have a superstar returner.

Most kickoffs reach the end zone anyway, and if they dont you probably can return it past the 25 if you catch it.

Looks like it might be used for those high short kicks or if team needs to save time on the clock.

Pussyfication of the game. Just change it to flag football and use timeouts to talk about your feelings.

Because you can kick it near the goaline but not in the end zone and basically tackle the guy near the 10 yard line or even worse since the tacklers have a head start running from the 35. Teams like Alabama and Ohio state uses this strategy all the time to get great field position for their defense.

thought this was punts when i read it on the psu board, but those guys are even gayer than this board, so didn't read any comments

still a dumb rule, champlain is right, the schools that have 5* guys playing ST got really good at exploiting ST
