We Are On The Brink Of A Tequila Shortage
According to Reuters, a shortage of agave — the plant used to make the drink — is causing quite a stir for tequila producers in Mexico, not to mention that the price of the plant has increased dramatically (3.85 pesos per kilo to 22) over the past few years. Agave plants normally take seven to eight years to mature, and the report states that only 17.7 million blue agaves were planted in Mexico in 2011. That has potential to become a very large problem, since 42 million plants are needed to supply 140 registered Tequila companies.

Unfortunately, the shortage is estimated to last until 2021, which means a lot of people are either going to have to cut back on their tequila intake or switch over to an alternative for a while.

I rarely drink anymore, well I should say I don't drink to point of intoxication, still enjoy the occasional drink or few beers.

This terrible news tho, girls who like tequila are almost always willing to give it up and usually pretty fun fukks!!

We have many Mexicans in our area. It will take years ro drink their personal stock. I have a friend that has 200 bottles in his houses. I'm good.

Agreed, the commercially produced stuff is crap, but good quality tequila is actually pretty good. There’s an old fashioned distiller near me who makes the best tequila I’ve ever had. They make it the same way they did 200 years ago right down to the donkey driven extraction presses. I think the biggest reason it tastes so good is they don’t use the additives commercial distillers do to speed the fermentation process.

I agree. There is some song about tequila shots and girls getting naked... I have witnessed this phenomenon several times... so I like tequila.
