Wife gave me the go ahead for two weeks vacation to prove I can make a living betting on sports. Should I head to Vegas or start in Reno?

After two weeks...tell her u need two more!
Honestly, I think for just sports-betting...people might say Reno. Can often catch an extra half-pt in Reno, that u can't find in Vegas. Keep us abreast of your success, pal!

I've spent extended time in both cities. Reno has far less casinos, but in my opinion the location is nicer than Vegas, but not by a lot. Reno kinda has a weird vibe to it if you ask me. Its not that large of a city, although some bigger companies have moved into the area for the favorable tax treatment of inventories held in the state of Nevada. Reno has some scenery, mountains, Lake Tahoe nearby if you like the outdoors. Vegas is a sprawling mess of traffic, but more tourists, chicks (if married you might not be into that aspect).
Reno downtown has enough casinos within walking distance of each other, can be somewhat of a long-walk between some. But not all casinos have nice sportsbooks. I'd recommend the Peppermill, Atlantis (those both kinda off on their own outside of downtown). Maybe Harrah's downtown for the book, and Grand Sierra Resort. And then the city of Sparks has some casinos but the Nugget might be one of the only decent books. Sparks is neighboring Reno connected on the east-side, where you might consider living in Sparks if you were to reside in the area....either that or the outskirts of Reno down beyond the south-end of Reno. There's a couple of locals casinos down there with decent small books, but I forget the name of them right off my head.
Bottom line, on a two-week trial I'd say Vegas because you'll have more options and more serious books to choose from.

well if you're concerned about weather, don't go to Reno this time of year. They don't get a lot of snow, but it's cold at elevation. Can be windy also.
Vegas weather is a bit more mild this time of year, but it still can get chilly at night. Maybe you'll luck out and be there during a hot streak (both outside and in the books!).

You could do the same thing with offshore but the better chance if you factor in bonuses and low juice

Vegas or Reno?
You can’t be serious.
If you are Vegas is your type of town, Reno has some tough characters who will eat you alive once you mention you had to get the wife’s permission.

Was planing to visit Reno last road trip around Cali/Nevada but several people said it was a dump and driving from SF across the mountains would be a nightmare in February.
Then once I was there, and changed the plan, anybody I spoke to said it was a mistake and Reno and the drive are great.
Lots of opposite opinions about the place

Yes offshore would be nice but everything I have read is that most books except Pinnacle will reduce your limits or close your account if you are a constant winner... So hypothetically speaking I have las vegas and Reno if it works out... Maybe NJ or Pennsylvania down the line if laws change there...

I’ve taken big numbers from youwager
1st Fidelity
Never once have been limited
They limit certain small sports but they take on all action on larger events

If you play poker Tahoe is a good choice this time of year. You’ve got the sports books and some decent poker games full of rich ski season tourists.

scenery is nice but nothing special unless you turn off and head to tahoe, driving on the ice with or without chains is headache
then you get there its pretty much like fremont street in vegas but a little nicer hotels

Was probably smart to avoid the ice. First time driving on the right side of the road in a V8 Camaro was tough enough on desert highways.

Reno? I thought Reno was more a chill place more for the older crowd and not as trashy as Vegas.
Can't be worst than NYC. I'll never forget the first time I went there as a kid and seeing bums pissing all over the walls. Place is a complete shithole.

2 weeks is a long time for a vacation.
If you like spending time in the snow, go to Lake Tahoe.
If you want to feel like an addict, go to Las Vegas.
If you want to feel like a drug addict, go to Reno.

I go to Reno almost every weekend during football. Driving there is a little crazy now with the snow. Most of the time I take Harrah's VIP bus so don't worry about driving. Reno has a weird vibe to it and can't see myself staying there for 2 weeks. All the casinos and books feel like "local spots." I recommend Vegas for 2 weeks as you have more options in doing stuffs and way better nightlife activities. Unless you enjoy snowboarding then head to Tahoe for the three H's... Harvey's, Harrah's, and Heavenly!

Reno used to be good for sports betting because you could walk downtown to about 5-6 different books with unique numbers. William Hill’s belief that there was a need for their presence in every casino killed this off.
