Having re-signed point guard Kyle Lowry and center Serge Ibaka this offseason, the Toronto Raptors have reportedly made another move that will impact the team’s rotation next season.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com, the Raptors have traded small forward DeMarre Carroll to Brooklyn, with the Nets also receiving a future first-round and a future second-round pick. In exchange the Raptors will receive center Justin Hamilton, but the biggest benefit for Toronto is the salary cap relief.
Carroll was owed $30.2 million in the final two seasons of his current deal, which he agreed to in the summer of 2015. By comparison Hamilton is guaranteed $3 million next season in the final year of his contract. Such a move gives Raptors team president Masai Ujiri some room to possibly add more options to the rotation as Toronto looks to remain in the mix for Eastern Conference supremacy.
