I watched an interview with some black guy last year and he said that the number of black players in the Baseball is declining because it is a sport for the rich. Chris Rock said that it isn't "hip" enough for black people to play anymore.

Track and field is a joke in the northeast for high school athletes. Real sports worth a damn are football, basketball, soccer and baseball in that order

Track and wrestling are for the kids that got cut from basketball, soccer or baseball

No one gets cut from football, wrestling or track anyone can walk on.

If any kid was exceptional they'd get recruited by the private schools

Doesn't have anything to do with money. Kids used to play stickball with bottlecaps. That is all it takes.

Dr. J and Michael Jordan. Blacks kids started identifying with the NBA in the 70s and drifted away from baseball. Then they started dominating the NFL in the 70s. Blacks are also really good at basketball it turns out.

Baseball is a boring game, especially now that it takes 3:30 to play a game when they used to last as little as an 1.5 to 2 hours. Basketball and football are easy to learn and not boring to watch.

Another small reason there are fewer blacks in baseball is the focus on one sport now. As an example, Patrick Mahomes was a projected second-round draft pick as a baseball pitcher. But he decided to play QB at Texas Tech. He was going to play both sports but wound up playing just football.

Tony Gwynn was the starting point guard at San Diego State and Kenny Lofton was starting PG for Arizona. These days probably neither of those guys would even play baseball.

Randle-El was a major league prospect but just played football. Patrick White the QB at West Virginia was rated higher than Carl Crawford coming out of high school and never played college baseball.

Maybe with the negative publicity involving football and head injuries, more blacks will give baseball a second look. Football chews you up and spits you out, you can make guaranteed money in baseball and play for a while... not sure why that isnt lucrative enough for young blacks. Maybe too much minor league ball and grinding for them.

Hard to believe now that Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson played both MLB and NFL in the same season. Wow, those guys were good. Both said that their favorite sport was baseball.
