Francesco Totti: Roma captain and striker 'to retire from playing'

Roma legend Francesco Totti is to retire from playing at the end of the season, the club's new sporting director Monchi has revealed.
The 40-year-old forward and club captain has scored 307 goals in 783 appearances since making his Roma debut 24 years ago.
He will become a director at the club he has served all his career.
"There is an agreement with the club that this will be his last year," Monchi said.
"Then he will continue as a director. I want him on my side because he is Roma and can teach me what Roma is," the Spaniard added.
Roma's final game of the season at home to Genoa on 28 May will be his last.
Totti, a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, has won one Serie A title and two Coppa Italias at Roma.
He was widely expected to quit playing last summer but signed a one-year extension to his contract.
He has made 25 appearances this season, mostly as a substitute.

One of the soccer greats for sure i rate him up there with Messi and Maradona.

Yeah, but he's a legend. Furthermore, in his younger days, his Trail of Trim is legendary.

Slayer, you're posting all the garbage nowadays Totti is no Hagi or Zidane or Romario or Ronaldo(Brazilean) or Messi. Maybe, he is just a good club and international player, nothing more. At least, they do not build a statue or name an airport like show-phony Ronaldo. lol

U dumb MFer! Arguably, the most creative player in history of SerieA.

If there was one ticket I would pay for in 2017, it would be his home finale vs Genoa.

Wanna know what kind of guy Totti is?

Half the married women in Rome would gladly nail Totti and not apologize for it. And the husbands would stand there in the background as Totti laid the wood to their wife.

"Oh, how sad he is retiring", said no one, ever.

If anything, Totti is criminally underrated due to the fact that he chose to stay with his childhood team Roma, rather than going to Real Madrid. People have only started to appreciate him now because of his longevity. Plus the fact that he was STILL regularly scoring game winning goals for Roma at the age of 39.

Whilst not at the level of Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane et al, he’s definitely one of the most creative players of the last 20-30 years. Shame that he never took the opportunity to join Zidane for a couple of years at Real Madrid - it had the potential to be epic.

What must it be like (one time) to have a packed stadium cheering your name?

"Totti, Totti". Larry Bird talked about it. "Larry, Larry". Larry said it can't help but elevate your play to another level.

25 years with the same club. A great competitor with a flair for the dramatic.

Vin Scully and Totti stepping down makes me feel old.

    One more flopper is retired.

Jokes apart, Totti is one of the greats.
