Poker Pro, Friend Must Repay $10.1M to Borgata in Cards Case

Poker pro Phil Ivey and a companion must return more than $10 million they won from an Atlantic City casino while playing cards that were arranged in a certain way to give the players an edge.
A federal judge had previously ruled Ivey and companion player Cheng Yin Sun didn't meet their obligation to follow gambling regulations on four occasions in 2012 by having a dealer at the Borgata arrange Baccarat cards so they could tell what kind of card was coming next.
Last week the judge ordered the pair to return $10.1 million to the casino. The order by U.S. District Court Judge Noel Hillman essentially returned both sides to where they were before Ivey and Sun began gambling at the Borgata.

all they have to do is agree to make payments. say 100.00 a month. they are no debtor prisons so this will suffice as long as they have no assets to seize. casino will have to hire a judgement enforcement team if they want more that that.

He did the same thing at Crockford's in England he won 12.4 mil but Crockford's refused to pay. Ivey took it to court and lost which probably

had bearing on the Borgata ruling.

Thought they noticed a variation on the back of cards, which the Asian chick used to help determine value.

Dealers were not involved when reported from UK.

    If you ain`t cheatin`, you ain`t tryin`.

What a riot TV made rock stars out of poker players.

wow what a joke of a casino. All ivey did was ask if it would be possible to play in a certain way and the casino obliged. The casino didn't find it suspicious he wanted the cards placed in a certain way and that he brought along an asian friend. You know why? Because if he lost money they would take it all! Now they want him to pay the money back when they scam players on a daily bases by rigging their casino games. Lol.

Casinos can take it but they sure as hell don't like giving it back. All Phil and his Asian lady friend did was ask the pitboss if they could turn the deck 90 degrees since the Asian lady friend was very superstitious. If the dumfuk high limit pitboss didn't know about edge sorting tactics then that's a casino problem not a Phil Ivey problem.

I also think this is more of a casino/sportsbook vs the player type of deal. They can program slot machines and everything else to get a huge edge over the player, but they don't like being on the other side. Also did you guys see Lederer's apology to the public. Lol that guy is such a joke. It's also very disrespectful of him to play the world series after all that.

Even if Ivey was broke, yeah right, he could walk into any card game in the world and find a stake for the highest limits in minutes. He will never be broke. Personally think the guys shady as hell but cmon he can't spell broke

I did well at The Borgata, only played there once, only played 1/2. I will say that when the staff and local grinders realized I am good they weren't nice so I left and as a result probably won't be back.

    You want rake from me?

Don't have your local boys be pricks because ya know what? At 9 out of 10 casinos they understand that rake generates revenue and they are respectful, which is good business - and is also common sense.

Yes, you have nice promotions but you call not paying for parking a promotion though? The whole concept of having to pay in the first place is retarded as well.
And they wonder why their business is going elsewhere.
    Truth.

And so I'm not that surprised.

I've advised my boys not to go back either. We play straight up 100% of the time, we never collude and are gentlemen exactly 100% of the time, and always tip wayyyyy beyond well.

That's not good enough for you?

Fine, we can do that anywhere IN THE WORLD where we are appreciated. Which equals 90% of casinos.

I grew up remotely near you and my initial bias was actually in your favor. You just blew that.
The gimmicks (the drunk girls and the good bands, etc.) seemed nice at first.

All that "angling" (you're seriously going to angle a f*cking 1/2 player? WOW) stuff is pathetic and I've seen it elsewhere and by elsewhere I mean -

Other disrespectful places we don't go to anymore.

    About it.

Won't be bad mouthing them again -

Just don't have time for that garbage. I don't know them, and I threw their comp card right in the trash.

I am glad Ivey did this as a result, they probably pissed him off too and I am sorry he is getting in trouble for it.

The law is the law though. Just how it is.

best 1-2 games in the nation are at Coushatta in Louisianna.....

loose locals hate outsiders and I always run like Biteme in an sbr cash game when I play there......

i'm used to poppin a 1-2/1-3 game for a few hundred over each hour of play, but at coushatta, the return rate is 3-4x that rate.....

those local coon-asses go on tilt easily, and even the old guys there are loose and can't play worth a shit..... and don't get me started on the women that play there..... not to sound mysoginistic, but those hos play worse than the tilted rednecks and old war veterans who fill the place combined......

even yahoonino and onerous, even f'n chipup, would run over those games......

key word in that passage is "return"......

to use a texas phrase, that horse done left the barn.....

judgments are often the main reason people file for bancruptcy......

however, judgments based on fraud causes of action are non-dischargeable......

Tactics, that's the right word. Casino is not congress. Hopefully there is a judge who understands the difference between a law and a casino rule. Fk them

For somebody so smart and such a good player - how can Ivey be such an idiot? He finds this edge and can milk this cow for a long time as long as he doesn't blow it and expose what he has found. He has to much greed and and forgot one of the important things - how much can you win without raising suspicion. I can see asking to keep the same deck. Same dice, etc. hey they are lucky for me. But, if the guy turns the tray - play it straight - manage the chips - leave without being a pig! The best thing they could have done after winning a good amount is lose some of it back.
