Plane carrying Brazilian soccer club crashes in Colombia

Plane, which made a stop in Bolivia, was carrying 1st-division club Chapecoense

An airplane with 81 people on board, including players from a Brazilian soccer team heading to Colombia for a regional tournament final, has crashed on its way to Medellin's international airport.

Aviation authorities said there are reports of at least six survivors.

"It's a tragedy of huge proportions," Gutierrez told Blu Radio on his way to the site in a mountainous area outside the city where the chartered aircraft is believed to have crashed shortly before midnight local time.

They were going to play the final of the Copa Sudamericana wednesday night.
Looks like Alan Ruschel (defender), is among the survivors with multiple fractures (hip etc) and head trauma.
Unconfirmed reports, that Danilo the goalkeeper survived as well.

i know this sounds bad but i wonder what the protocol is if a sports team all died in a plane crash , what would they do , obviously cancel games rest season but how you could you rebuild a whole franchise from 0

This isn't the first time this has happened. See Marshall and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in Russia from just a few years ago. Isn't going to take much for them to sign other players for next season. Albeit, with a lot of rebuilding.

Normally 2nd Team or youth would play season till the end.
Manchester United had a few tougher years, but they were able to recover (lost "only" 7 or 8 players though).
FC Turin was THE team in Italy back then and the plane crash effectively ended their great streak and they were never able to recover.

"Colombian Police now confirm that 76 people died in the crash. One of the six survivors died in hospital.

Police told Radio Caracol that the death toll now stands at 76."

El Tiempo newspaper said there were at least 22 players from the squad on board. It reported that a 23rd player, whom the newspaper did not name, had been supposed to travel but did not

They should scrap the competition period to honour the victims and because their aviation is cheap ass.

Nacional wants to award them the title

Also teams want to protect them from relegation for 3 years and have offered to loan players.

    Unbelievable

Terrible news. So sad to watch the videos of them celebrating in the locker room. Also, videos and pictures of them on the plane just having a great time. It makes it all more real to see those videos, and images. Usually you hear these things, and kind of brush it off in a way because you don't know the people, or see them.

Fck, shit sucks. Prayers, and thoughts to their families, and friends. Also, for those that are fighting for their life right now.

In the US, the top leagues have a disaster draft to recover from something like this, and replenishing from the minors of course. NBA, MLB, NFL, MLS all have plans in place.

Atletico Nacional already called on to give the trophy to Chapecoense. That's big considering that team hasn't won the competition in their entire history.

Teams should separate their team into two groups on to two different planes. In case something like this happens.

If Nacional gave the trophy to Chapecoense that would be a heart warming story in this tragedy
