Blue Jays will extend qualifying offers to Encarnacion, Bautista

The Blue Jays have until five days after the World Series ends to use an exclusive negotiating window with all their impending free agents, and Atkins acknowledged the process of trying to re-sign both Encarnacion and Bautista has already begun.

A three-time All-Star, Encarnacion is coming off another season where he ranked among the majors' top offensive players. In 160 games, he hit .263/.357/.529 with 42 home runs, 34 doubles, and 127 RBIs. Over his last five seasons, he's averaged 39 home runs and 100 RBIs.

Bautista, meanwhile, is coming off an injury-plagued year that limited him to 116 games. He hit .234/.366/.452 with 22 home runs, 24 doubles, and 69 RBIs

Both of these guys will most likely decline to get better deals, imo jays should let bautista go. 36 years old and basically he is a glamorized DH for the rest of his career

Would love to see Edwin sign but it may be tough, jays have a few other free agents also - saunders/grilli/cecil/barney a few more i think also

jays should say goodbye and good luck to these two. home runs overrated and that's all they can do now and for not much longer. dh position should be rotated among players who can play the field instead of having albatrosses that can only hit homers or strike out. they want way too much money for being just a dh and toronto won't pay it.

Jays should have let Bautista go a few years ago when his stock was at an all-time high. Now he's injury plagued and old in addition to being an absentee player when the playoffs start.

Let them both go. soon 2 be mark teixera style. 200 hitters that strikeout 3 times a game and hit solo shots in the 8th with team up or down 6 runs.

I wish Encarnacion went with the Giants to cover 3rd base.

I don't care much for Bautista.

Huge opportunity for the Blue Jays to let these guys go, and rebuild their farm system with first round picks. Still have a strong lineup without them.

Have to extend an offer, if they turn it down and sign with another team that's two sandwich draft picks between the 1st and 2nd rounds. Same with Neil Walker and Cespedes of the Mets (assuming Ces opts out of his deal which seems obvious he will). Get those draft picks when you can. None of these players would accept a Q offer anyway.

Judging by the numbers, only Edwin was roiding up this year.
