Ward cleared to play. I think Houston rolls tonight with the skeptics watching the only game on TV.

cincinnati been planning for this specific game since before the season started. Home dog is getting over a touchdown when these two always play close and only lost by 3 away last season. Hayden Moore is a good QB in their pro style offense. JJ is right, take the points. This is a statement game for Tuberville. JJ we are the best handicappers here.

I like unranked home teams on Thursdays trying to knock off a Top Ten. However I like them a little better when the situation happens further into the season though. I took Cincy in the Prick Contest, but I'm staying away in the real money department.

I second the tricky game sentiment.

Cincy was a team in shambles last year. I can't see them improving that much this quickly. Bet against them last week and Purdues QB handed them the game. I'm sticking to my assessment of Bearcats. They are facing a Real McCoy team. They get stomped. 5 STAR it and load up for the easy score! Houston BIG

i remember being at a uc penn st game when i was younger. Papa joe brought his team in as a 30 point favorite and lost. They gave oklahoma all they could handle couple of years ago. Also the year osu demolished miami in the title game. It took 3 dropped passes in the end zone by uc for ohio st. to win. Wish I was still there because I would be at the game.

Enquirer UC football beat reporter Tom Groeschentakes a look at the Bearcats’ game Thursday against No. 6 Houston:
    When UC runs
Tion Green (32 carries, 150 yards, 0 TDs) and Mike Boone (30, 113, 1) continue to share the load at running back. Green is averaging 4.7 yards per carry, while Boone has yet to break out at 3.8 per carry. The Bearcats’ longest run of the year was a 79-yard end around by wide receiver Kahlil Lewis at Purdue last week. QB Hayden Moore leads UC with two rushing touchdowns. The Bearcats face a tall order, as Houston ranks No. 2 nationally in rushing defense (42.5 yards per game).
    When UC passes
Moore produced a strong game at Purdue, throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for two more. Moore has thrown for 510 yards and five Moore has thrown for 510 yards and five touchdowns, with only one interception. Nate Cole leads the wide receivers with 12 catches for 145 yards, with three touchdowns. Devin Gray is the deep threat, with nine catches for an 18.6-yard average. Running back Tion Green has six catches, which ranks third on the team.
    When Houston runs
Texas transfer Duke Catalon is expected back in the lineup, after being held out of last week’s 42-0 win over Lamar with a sprained ankle. Catalon rushed for 88 yards in the season-opening 33-23 upset of then-No. 3 Oklahoma, plus four catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. QB Greg Ward is also back, after missing last week with a mild right shoulder injury. Ward and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson were the only two players to rush for over 1,000 yards and throw for over 2,000 yards last year.

    When Houston passes
UC coach Tommy Tuberville said the Bearcats at first did not respect Ward’s arm when they first saw him a few years ago, but the Bearcats do now. Ward threw for 321 yards and two TDs in the win over Oklahoma. Steven Dunbar (9 catches, 132 yards), Linell Bonner (7, 109) and D’Eriq King (7, 53) are the top receivers. The UC defense built some confidence after intercepting five passes last week, three by nickelback Mike Tyson.

UC’s Andrew Gantz returned last week after missing the opener with a leg muscle strain. Gantz hit all five of his PAT attempts and made a 26-yard field goal. Punter Sam Geraci regained his 2015 form with a 44.8-yard average. Houston kicker Ty Cummings had made 12 consecutive field goals before missing two attempts last week. Houston kick returner Brandon Wilson is a real weapon, including a 100-yard touchdown off a missed field goal against Oklahoma. Wilson had two kickoff returns for TDs in 2015.
Gresh’s Gameplan: 3 keys to victory

    • Contain Greg Ward Jr.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Ward can beat you with his arm or legs, and the UC front seven will need consistent pressure up front. The Bearcats’ main goal is to keep Ward in the pocket. “Most of all he’s dangerous with his feet, but if we sleep on his passes, he can definitely put it through the air too,” UC defensive end Kimoni Fitz said. Ward is one of the best passers UC will see, having ranked ninth nationally in completion percentage last year (67 percent).

    • Get an early lead

With a sellout crowd ready to roar, UC could do itself a favor by getting ahead quickly. Even that may not be enough, as Houston twice came from behind in beating Oklahoma. Regardless, UC cannot afford to stumble out of the gate against a potent Houston offense. The Bearcats must execute as they did last week at Purdue, when they had no pre-snap penalties. Houston also has a shutdown run defense, and UC needs to establish something early in that department.

With five interceptions and no turnovers against Purdue, UC could not have played a much cleaner game. With the nation’s No. 6 team in town, the margin for error is just about zero. Moore has improved his accuracy this year, with only one interception. Houston’s Ward also will not give it up much, having thrown only six interceptions last year. The game often goes to the team with fewer turnovers, and that is a must for UC.

    Number of note
5 - UC’s national rank in turnover margin (plus-2.50 per game). Last year UC ranked No. 124 nationally in turnover margin (minus-1.46 per game).
    Prediction: Houston 35, Cincinnati 31
UC took a big step last week with its 38-20 win at Purdue, the first time in 59 years that the Bearcats beat a Big Ten team on the road. Which UC team will show up? The one that struggled for much of the opening win over UT Martin, or last week’s version? UC is a 7 1/2-point underdog, but the Bearcats were a 7-point dog when they upset the Miami Hurricanes on a Nippert Thursday last year. It will be close, but Ward makes the difference for Houston.
    TEAM AVERAGES
PF, PA, TotO, RushO, PassO, TotD, RushD, PassD
    UC: 33.0, 13.5, 456.0, 201.0, 255.0, 413.5, 140.0, 273.5
    Houston: 37.5, 11.5, 460.5, 235.0, 225.5, 233.0, 42.5, 190.5

    hmmm.
    interesting game tonite.
last yr en route to an overall 13-1 record powerful houston hosted mediocre cinci as a -9 home fav but only won narrowly by 3.
cinci racked up a whopping 589 net yards on houstons d in houston!
but this yr the game is in cinci!

houston returns 11 starters from that team. cinci returns 12.

in terms of "returning production" (via sbnation dot com) cinci is ranked 53; houston is only ranked 95 out of 128!

houston is 2-0 with both games on home field
cinci is 2-0 but winning a road game by 18 pts.

    cinci has no injury issues.
houston does get their allstar qb ward back, but he may still be nursing a sore THROWING shldr which could easily b reinjured.
cinci defense is keenly aware of this. mind u, cougs backup qb is capable, just not as good.

last yrs 13-1 cougs defeated some good teams like louisville, fsu, navy and memphis - but did lose to mediocre 5-5 connecticut as a -7.5 road fav, so they dont always cover those road games they r supposed to.

    good luck

Houston will be very upset if they target Greg Ward's bum shoulder. Might even see a temper tantrum.

philosophically speaking jj, everyone has the POTENTIAL to get upset.

However, some of us have learned to deal with it since we were kids.

Also, there's a chance Houston loses
