It depends on if the traders and businesses who took a 36% loss to cover the total losses decide to move on to Bitstamp or another exchange. According to Bitfinex, a BFX token is being created that logs the amount Bitfinex owes those accounts and eventually they will be settled over time.
I'd be more concerned about the security policies in place at Bitfinex. One would think something like this could not happen again, but Tokyo and Hong Kong based exchanges are responsible for two of the biggest exchange security breaches and loss of customer funds in bitcoin's short history.

12? I have SS of the casino doing 16, 18 and 19 in a row of 1 color. They were super fun days for my balance.
I heard something about they're going to try and seek future investors to pay back what was lost. It was only word of mouth so I don't want to be that guy.

Is there an argument for never, ever, ever leaving bitcoin in an exchange and always moving to an offline wallet for safekeeping?

I think people are used to banks and want someone else to look after their money security still in a lot of cases.

If you're day trading, it isn't practical to leave your crypto in cold storage.

and Bitfinex allowed margin trading. I never used them since they stated that everyone would get a 1099.
