If Hillary is replaced Trump will be trailing by 20 points in polls. Only reason Trump is trailing by just 7 points is Hillary.

Replace Hillary with Biden on the ballot and it's a landslide win for Democrats.

Crazier things has happened. If Trump keeps going off the rails and the party decides to try to distance themselves from him as much as possible. Cruz can say he was the only one that stood up and tried to protect the party, he didn't endorse Hillary, only said to vote your conscience. It may sound crazy, but right about now, Cruz is prolly saying "I told you so"

I think what could happen and is starting quietly behind the scenes is that the RNC withdraw overt support for Trump and focus on House and Senate elections. The strategy has already been launched for those in tight races distance themselves from the "National Message" and withdraw support for Trump if they feel it necessary.
