Yesterday it leaked out that Donald Trump had settled on Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate. But then things got weird. The running mate event was suddenly canceled. So was the planned joint interview on 60 Minutes. Pence was left hanging the night before he had to decide whether or not to file for reelection in the Governor’s race. Something clearly wasn’t right, but this morning Trump tweeted out that Pence is his pick after all. Now CNN is reporting that Trump tried to ditch Mike Pence.

As late as midnight last night, Donald Trump was on the phone with advisors, trying to figure out a way to undo the Pence selection in favor of someone he liked better, only to find out that the wheels were in motion and it was too late to be undone. He must have asked for advice from one of the wrong people, because one of them appears to have turned right around and leaked Trump’s embarrassng attempted coup against his own pick to the media.
Shortly after Trump announced the Mike Pence pick Friday morning, CNN reported that he had tried and failed to ditch him the night before. In the eight hours since, Trump has had nothing to say. His notorious Twitter account has gone completely silent, at a time when he should be promoting the Pence pick heavily for the sake of trying to get it to take hold in the minds of voters.
