HANOI, Dec. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- The Investigation Agency under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security has just decided to prosecute a case involving in 22 staff of police forces in Hanoi capital, who caught red-handed gambling, local newspaper Youth reported Monday.
The 22 people, who were attending an open-air refresher course along with others, were detained when gambling in the capital-based botanical garden on Dec. 13. Among the detainees is a driver named Bui Quang Hung at the Hanoi Traffic Police Bureau, who runs an illegal lottery and soccer-betting ring.
After searching the driver's house, local police detained a car,two motorbikes, a safe, a computer, nearly 500 million Vietnamese dong (31,400 US dollars), and related documents. According to the documents, a local bettor made a bet of 200,000 dollars on an English match.
Like other kinds of gambling, except for casinos designated for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese, soccer betting is illegal in Vietnam. Dozens of local bettors and bookmakers are detained during major national and international soccer tournaments. Enditem
