But how many would have bet Holly Holm straight up - pick'em without any + money whatsoever? If you would have done that then you sir - are a jackass and a liar. Okay so now that we've got that straightened out I want to congratulate anyone who had the cajones to bet Holm.
I couldn't have been more wrong on this one. No I didn't bet the fight because I recall the Mike Tyson circa 1990 when he was -3300 to Buster Douglas. Upsets happen and I'm not ever laying north of -300 no matter if it's JJ GOld versus a Silverback gorilla.
I truly believed the only way Holm could win is if Rousey decided to prove she could stand-and trade with a 19-time world boxing champ (which incidentally is the reason I no longer watch boxing because anytime there are enough alphabet soup organizations and so many divisions that you eat a ham sandwich and move up a weight class that you can win a championship belt 19 times means it's a complete mess), but even then if you look at Holm's boxing record she only had 9 KO's. She wasn't exactly a power puncher and what did anyone see in her previous UFC fights that would lead you to believe she could beat Rousey?
Holm had a SPLIT decision over Raquel Pennington who had a 5-4 MMA record before she met Holm. Then she scored a unanimous decision over 38-year-old Marion Reneau. Seriously?
Okay so tell me please why didn't Rousey take this to the mat at the very beginning? I didn't see the fight which is why I am asking if she ever attempted that at the beginning. I know she tried after she had been hammered by Holm and figured out she better stay away but by then it was too late, she seemed gassed in the clips I saw of her trying to attempt a takedown.
Personally I am stunned she lost to a fighter with no mat game to speak of and couldn't adapt when she felt Holm's power. I could not have been more wrong about this one.
