Coaching search: Kornblut and company over at SportsTalk are reporting that a "tentative agreement" is in place for Tom Herman to become the next head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks. However, that is being completely denied by both Herman himself and athletics director Ray Tanner, according to The Big Spur. So there's that. Draw your own conclusions from all of those things put together. Also, what does that change in the coaching search situation?
That would piss me off if this happens. University of Houston has been great recently in getting head coaches (Sumlin, Briles, and now Herman), but they can't keep any of them. They have got to influence the Big 12 to accept them, and another team, so they can bring this program to the next level.Comment -
Despite recent reports that Houston’s Tom Herman has a tentative deal in place to become South Carolina’s next head coach, Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman says the Gamecocks have a different front-runner — Alabama’s Kirby Smart.
Sources have told one of college football’s most reliable insiders that the Crimson Tide’s 39-year-old defensive coordinator is at the top of South Carolina’s list and there’s mutual interest.
South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said last week he expects to name a new coach in December.
Houston, meanwhile, is trying to keep Herman with a considerable raise and contract extension.
