My question is: is this outfit still in existence and providing free insurance for selected sportsbooks? When I try the old website address, I get taken directly to Offshore Gamblers Digest.

A little background for anyone who may not be aware: SGA started up with a vision of bringing more safety to the industry. It was a group of books that were willing to guarantee each others' liquidity. In the event that one collapsed, players could be guaranteed to have their account balances transferred to another member book - up to a certain amount (it was $3500 for a long time but I think it went up).

This has probably not been a great explanation. I would rather copy their own Vision Statement from their website but, as I say, it doesn't seem to be there any more.

    Anyone know the status?

It's a great idea but it's been put on hold. I'm not sure if it'll ever come back.

It was great for players, hard to see how it ouwld benefit the larger books. For instance, it made a lot of sense for APEX to join. And SGA saved a number of APex players like myself. But I would think a book like 5dimes, would need more of an incentive to stay in, if they are going to insure a book like apex.

That's what I didn't quite get. I could see how a bunch of top books that would never have any problems would form an alliance, but I wasn't too clear on why ABC Islands and Las Palmas and 5 Dimes would want to be in bed with Royal.

But hey, when I had money at Royal and some disturbing things started happening there some months back, I made sure I got my account registered just in case.
