#8He was a freak talent. Like a man playing with children in the ABA. His talent was only matched by his humility and class. Dr j was not black or white he just WAS...... lets hope the rest of us get there.Comment -

#18Doctor J had very large hands for a 6 foot 6 player which was able to enhance his game. Guy was a legend, a trend setter. I think in his prime that he could give elite players a run for their money. A little "Kobe-like"Comment -

#24Never been a personal fan of signed shoes for some reason. Although I can't have 30 basketballs laying around my place, will look for about 4-5 balls and then pictures or something of the like. Baseballs I could handle quite a few.
Also wanting to start collecting proof set coins from at least the 60s to today.Comment -

Top five you got guys like Jordan and ,Chamberlain, and Russell, and Jabbar, and Magic, and Bird and Oscar, and West, and I'm not sure if you put Julius ahead of guys like Olajuwon.....
This is what Erving did though.
What Namath did for the AFL (major inflluence in the NFL/AFL merger) Erving did for the ABA (ABA/NBA) merger.
Pretty much held the NBA hostage, the NBA wanted him, bad, there were talks about the merger of the two leagues for a little while, the ABA era was pretty much over, the better players in the ABA were jumping ship to the NBA, so the ABA made a deal with the NBA, you can have Erving, but you have to take the Pacers, Nets, Spurs, and Nuggets.
They did, ABA closed up shop, and the rest is history.
Five years in ABA, 2 rings, 3 scoring titles, 3 MVP's
Drafted by the Oscar Robertson/Kareem Bucks, tried to jump the the Hawks, because he wouldn't play in Milwaukee behind those two icons, ABA Virginia Squires said, no, we own your rights, so he played in the ABA.
Classiest ever to play the game they say, the first ever to have a single name moniker "Doctor"
Grandfather of the slam dunk, but Erving said he developed it not as a show of force, but developed the dunk as a high percentage shot at the end of a drive, not as a in your face, disgrace, show of force.
Skinniest 6'7" guy ever in the NBA, it's said he saw the game in slow motion the way Ted Williams saw the pitched ball.
Greatest move of all time, the baseline move.

You ever hear of Artis Gilmore and Dan Issel, one was 7'1" godzilla that could take down giants, and the other was a man beast, he had to go between two of the once in the ABA, hang in midair to wait for them to go down, and slam the ball in was the only way to get the two points.Comment -

Erving couldn't take it anymore, hooked Bird, Bird tried to get free, Julius lost it, only time in his career he lost it.
Could not accept the young guy taking the legend to the woodshed at the end of his career, Erving had to much pride, just lost it.
Bird was probably the only man to make him cry.
Watch at the end where the two savages, Barkley and Malone mug Bird.

#34Dr J in Top 25 but not sure about any higher. If you take time to think about this one I think Dr J slides down a little.
That photo of Dr J and Bird grabbing each other by the neck is still all over the place in bar rooms and barber shops in Mass. The 80's were the best decade for the NBA I think.Comment -
