I wish there were better ways to help those in need than to donate directly to the Salvation Army.

http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=2...1#.UMPduuTBHms - Look what they do with donated clothes!

It's a good gesture but who knows where it goes.

I know there are places around here locally where you can sponsor families. So you can actually be somewhat involved, etc.

S.A. is way better than most IMO

Yes , it is good to donate direct in your hometown but we (SBR) should be able to raise some cash to help somewhere.

Costa Rica is fine by me

I have donated to Salvation Army before, clothes, furniture, a tv, and of course cash. (The guys at the grocery stores are out in full effect with their Salvation Army jars and bell-ringing.)

This year I did toys for tots.

Maybe SBR would consider something for that, too?

Donate locally, food bank, shelter, children's org. Anyone who isn't so big that the main focus is to keep the org and it's employees afloat as it's main goal. Yes orgs can get too big. Call 311 in your area (mostly) and find out who is in need.
