I have two plays I am on for very simple reasoning. Today in history a small but impactful civil war exchange occurred in which the confederate forces led by Gen French surrounded the fortifications of union troops in the Battle of Allatoona. Seemingly overwhelmed by the rebel forces the leader of this Union army, Gen. Corse receives a message from French “….to avoid a needless effusion of blood I call on you to surrender your forces at once…” to which Corse responds… “…respectfully reply that we are prepared for the "needless effusion of blood" whenever it is agreeable to you.”

Long story short, Union re-enforcements arrive and Gen French is forced to withdraw. A famous tag line was born from this skirmish which comes from Gen Sherman’s reply to Gen Corse when notified about the situation….”Hold the Fort!”
