If uploading an avatar, please make sure its file type is one of the following:
JPG, GIF, PNG
the image is all of these, also some times we get massage " file entity too large "

Although it's not very noticeable on the forum, there has been massive amounts of work done replacing the backend infrastructure and content management for the overall site.
The forum runs on Vbulletin software which is no longer being supported and a change is in the works.
