#2I'm hearing that this was not his decision, or that he was not in control of this decision.
They may have asked him to step down.Comment -

I'll remember Boeheim for many reasons:
*On the betting front, he was a Net winner as Road Dog for a long time.
*He taught the unique zone. Took teams a while to figure it out.
*The final against Indiana was a crusher. Orangemen were very good on that run. Derrick Coleman misses the FT, and Keith Smart hits the game-winner.
*The championship win vs Kansas. Two things stick out to me: 1) Kansas had an unusually bad game from the line, left like 12 pts on the board (50% FTs). 2) Warrick blocks it at the gun.
*Married later in life, and landed a hot babe. Got to coach two of his sons.
Enjoyed his tenure. Thank you, Mr Boeheim.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#4Understand that he has not retired, apparently...lol.
He stepped down from Syracuse.
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim was asked about his plans for next season, whether he will be back or retire after a Hall of Fame coaching career, and his responses did not provide much clarity. Here is the back and forth from the postgame press conference after the Orange's loss to Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament.
Q.Now that the season is over, people are going to naturally wonder about your plans. Have you thought about what you're going to do next year?...
JIM BOEHEIM: You know, it's a university. As I've said from day one when I started working here, the university hired me, and it's their choice what they want to do. I always have the choice of retirement, but it's their decision as to whether I coach or not. It always has been.

#6So strange...
Q.Are you saying right now that you're going to retire?
JIM BOEHEIM: This is up to the university.
Q. You want to come back?
JIM BOEHEIM: I didn't say that.
Q. So what are you saying? You're not saying you're retiring --
JIM BOEHEIM: I just said it. I don't know.
Q. So you don't know?
JIM BOEHEIM: I said this is up to the university.
Q. You're not sure whether -- how will you make a determination about when you will come back?
JIM BOEHEIM: You're talking to the wrong guy...
Q.I'm just a little confused. Do you want to come back, or did you just announce your retirement without actually announcing your retirement?
JIM BOEHEIM: No, I said it's up to the university. They have to make their decision, and it's up to them. I hope we can come to a good agreement. I mean, that remains to be seen.Comment -

#8If he wanted to coach the school should have let him coach.
When he was hired, they were just an independent. His first season, he went 24-6, and after three seasons, they were elevated to the Big East. Syracuse isn't s a very big school, and it's not a place where everyone wants to go. Those upstate winters. I'm glad he won a national championship. Yes, it was 20 years ago, but still. It's probably going to be 20+ years before Syracuse wins another without him.
One thing I'll remember him for is winning what I think is the best college basketball game I've ever seen. It went 6 OT's when the record, set in 1955, is 7. This game was freaking unbelievable, and I bet Syracuse. Like wiki says, it ended at 1:22 A.M. It was incredible.

#13We were up at the Dome this past Saturday for the WF game and to watch them lift McNamaras and Waricks jersey and celebrate the 20 year anniversary. Did not know it would be Boeheims last win.

So many great teams/players. One game that comes to mind. David Robinson making Rony Seikaly look like a school-boy:

#16Honestly one of the bigger dickheads in the game. Always sour. Game passed him by long ago. Overstayed his welcome by like ten years. Also I never heard of himComment -

#22extremely shortsighted.
only one team wins every year. just one team.
tom izzo is a GREAT coach, but only has one championship.
the great Dean Smith? just two.
etc etc.
very few guys like Wooden or Coach K. they are few and far between.
due to the one and done nature of the NCAA tourney, it is so difficult just to win 4 games and make the Final 4, let alone the champ game or to cut down the nets.
the fact he got young kids to want to go play in boring and cold Syracuse, says a lot.

#24Boeheim deserves no respect. Simply a nerdy college coach who should have
been shown the door after the Bernie Fine scandal.
Disgusting what happened to those boys.
He should be relegated to Joe Paterno's status.
Pretty much the takeaway on Boeheim by most folks that I know.Comment -
