Deschamps made a change that not many Managers would make. He knew something about his team.

Giroud is the France all-time goal-scorer, and Dembele is a regular from a big club. Deschamps somehow knew that he had to change the pace of the game. And two young players was the way he could change the game.

FRA really didn't have many chances. But it's 2-2.

Jeff Saturday wouldn't do it. He stuck with Matt Ryan until the end and lost.

Same for Coman/Camavinga for Griezmann/Hernandez. Most managers wait way too long to make the changes (for bigger name players).

You have the bullets in your holster. Might as well use them.

France lucky. Argentina was in control for 80 minutes. Whatever Gidjay Deshaun-umps did, didn't have much of an impact to me.

I thought yanking Giroud in the first half was reactionary at best, punitive at worst. In the end whether it was tactical or to make a point it worked.

Two young players? And how old do you think Dembele is who was replaced by a "young player"?

Salud, Smokey. Head Coach must have seen something.

Giroud is a great player (IMHO). But he's a TARGET-man. He doesn't help much in buildup.

I'm far from a great tactician. Just my opinion. The younger quick feet helped.

Also the subs were made in the 40th minute and until the penalty in 80th minute France absolutely did nothing.

One year older. Giroud is much older.

I know Dembele's age is about the same. I wonder if Deschamps thought the sub legs were fresher.
