Actually most knew us had no chance
the odds to win it all only went from +10000 to +9000 after they qualified
I basically got pretourney odds on Croatia who weee +5000

I heard a a guy from a sports book on the radio saying they are swimming in it, especially overseas markets. He said that because of some really unpredictable results, the emergence of some of the Asia teams & all the early ties they almost were on automatic pilot. They had to do nothing but put up numbers & pop the champagne.

For sure. It's been an ENTERTAINING tournament.
There really were some shockers where bettors certainly had BANKER bets on the Favorite:
1) Saudi Arabia over Argentina. Saudi Arab was laughed off. Seriously, what was the handle on ARG? Soccer bettors had to be betting ARG at every price from -0.5 to -2.5.
2) Japan over Germany. GERM is viewed as one of the blue-bloods. Germ always produces in big tournaments, right?
3) Japan over Spain. Ask any soccer pundit. They expected Spain to pass Japan to death.
Just those three above. Handle on those games had to be 90/10 to the Favorite. Also:
*Who had Belgium not getting out of group?
*Who had Morocco getting to the semifinals?
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Have to mention Opti's Australia, too. They looked like outsiders after opening loss to France.
Australia then beat Tunisia and Denmark. Plus, they ruined any tickets w/ ARG -1.5. Australia had a good tournament when NO ONE gave them a chance.

Soccer is a tough game to gauge. Lots of different ways to lose. Nobody wants to take a heavy favorite to win straight up

This is true. Soccer betting is DIFFERENT from traditional spread betting.
Soccer is USUALLY bet via 3-way line. That means if three bets go in, only one is a winner. Two losers.
Asian handicap is closest approximation to spread betting. But that doesn't normally line up to -110/-110 sides.
You're right about the heavy favorite. Do you really want to lay -0.5 when your bet is returning < 50-cents on the dollar? IMHO, it's even worse to bet the handicap b/c the team is not necessarily skilled at winning by margin.

I know the world cup has seen some surprises but it seems to me that favorite wins in soccer at a high clip. The good thing is you do get those +1300 and up dogs win on occasion which you just don't get in us pro sports very often. I guess some in college sports.

If people just bet to win or lose in regulation they get stung by the draw unless they hedge with the draw also. Then the profits are small and the risk gets high if your win bet loses and no draw.
Yes soccer not the best sport to bet on IMO. Hard to make money off it. Books are winning.

Except Morocco! Can Morocco do it a third time?
You're right, though. Knockout rounds USUALLY run to form w/ Favs and Teams of Pedigree.

Honest question:
*Are bettors giving FRANCE too much of a free pass?
Mbappe reportedly was slowed in training this week. I mentioned that France really didn't look sharp vs ENG.

I made a killing betting Morocco and Croatia. Of course I’m gonna bet a team when they’re +800 or +400 to advance. And of course that dog is most likely wiinning on PKs. How else would they win. Plus with all the free bets I get, I’m usuallly putting them on the +850 and betting the draw with my cash bets

Other angles
Will Messi get Morocco?
Even if France won today they have no chance vs Argentina. Too many weaknesses in the midfield and d but you know the public will still back France.

Laker, wish I had all the answers. Intriguing match to me.
1) I've been more pro-Morocco than almost anyone I know in this tournament.
2) In these short-sample tournaments, people USUALLY respond too late. IE, they'll jump on Morocco after the value has been sucked out. You sometimes see the same thing on NCAA Bask teams off upset wins.
3) Just reading the tea-leaves, it feels like people are giving France a free-pass. This isn't a dominant team. Talented team but they're vulnerable (like most teams).
For a storyline, I'd like to see Morocco. Think it's a very tough betting game.

France would destroy Argentina again.
Argentina is a mediocre team.
