I keep one eye on this HOF stuff. I think he's the HIGHEST-war non-HOFer who is

Funny thing, I think he's the ONE guy who actually has a WAR > 2x Baines. Really, had a hell of a career. Made WS w/ 3 teams, won w/ two of em. Used to be thought of as primarily a post-season guy (11-2), but his regular season stats were more than good enuf.

Writers have demonstrated a very poor ability to identify greatness. It's happened over and over again.

*Kenny Lofton and Jim Edmonds didn't even garner enough votes to stay on the ballot. And they were both worthy of being in the discussion.

*Ted Simmons had Catcher stats that were in top 3 all-time in most hitting categories. But writers didn't bother to look at him.

Schilling should be in for sure. The voters are arrogant, the old timers are stubborn and he’s being punished for:

1. Being a bad business guy off the field.
2. Not shutting up.
3. His era.

He will get in and so will the rest. Will be a shame if Pete Rose doesn’t get in before he croaks.

The story of baseball can be told without Schilling. His numbers say he should probably be in but not a shoe-in, hes a borderline candidate. And unfortunately his mouth has kept him out so far but thats life.

Schilling's comments are no more offensive to as many people (although to an entirely different group), as say Robert De Niro. That they are both outrageous partisan bomb-throwers who enjoy trolling the opposing side publicly. People who think De Niro is some kind of a villain for his remarks - and there's plenty out there who do - have no business using that against De Niro in an Oscar competition or a ranking of great actors. That's exactly what's going on with Schilling.

It's far more disgusting that people can't stick to the job at hand - identifying great ballplayers so they can be honored as ballplayers - than it would be for people who are good at their jobs, but not "nice" people, to be honored for excellence in the workplace. If some can't separate their emotions from their role as voters, they should hand over their ballots and remove themselves from the process.

Schilling has the credentials to waltz into the Hall of Fame
