Is today a holiday? That probably means my local Loblaws store will be closed.

              Bah, humbug!

Beautiful day in the nation's capital. Everything went according to plan except for a stop at the Tim Horton's drive-thru. The $20 from me to cashier was fumbled. The wind took it. It sat there in front of the car. There was enough room between my car and the building to open the door and retrieve it. She looked flustered and I told her it's ok, that I could get it. Before I finished the sentence, she throws my bag of food out the window, aiming at the $20 bill to prevent the wind from taking it further.

                Seriously

haha, I was in the same situation a few weeks ago. Thankfully rather than chucking my donut at it the kid working the window had the courtesy to run out through the back door and grab it for me.

Would have been difficult with a donut. Not much weight to it.

She was working with two bagels with cream cheese. It was a pretty accurate toss, I'll give her credit for that.

Yes it was. So I got the popsicles and Bridge Mix I so desperately needed.

Plus I was visited by three ghosts who taught me to treasure each and every day.

                        Everything is okay!

Ah yes, the popsicles. Hopefully not $120 at once. Leave some for other shoppers.

The holiday is called Heritage Day, not Civic Day.

                                    Ohmygosh what a vast over-simplification!

Civic Holiday is the most widely used name for a public holiday celebrated in parts of Canada on the first Monday in August,[1] though it is only officially known by that term in Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Manitoba. It is a statutory holiday in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, but not in Manitoba.

The holiday is known by a variety of names in different provinces and municipalities, including British Columbia Day in British Columbia, New Brunswick Day in New Brunswick, Ontario Day in Ontario and Saskatchewan Day in Saskatchewan. In Alberta, Heritage Day is an "optional" civil holiday, having been downgraded from a statutory holiday following the introduction of Family Day in 1990. The holiday is celebrated as Natal Day in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, but is not an official holiday in either locale.

In Ontario, the holiday is observed as a municipal holiday known as Simcoe Day in Toronto, Mountie Day in North York, Colonel By Day in Ottawa, Joseph Brant Day in Burlington, Founders' Day in Brantford, McLaughlin Day in Oshawa, Alexander Mackenzie Day in Sarnia, James Cockburn Day in Cobourg, Peter Robinson Day in Peterborough, and John Galt Day in Guelph, as well as numerous other names in smaller municipalities.[citation needed] Although a work holiday is given to employees of the federal and many municipal governments,[1] the provincial government has not defined this day as a statutory holiday and it is not mentioned in either Ontario's Employment Standards Act or Retail Business Holidays Act.[2][3]

The holiday is not generally observed in Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, or Yukon,[4] except by federal employees. In Newfoundland, the Royal St. John's Regatta, which usually occurs on the first Wednesday of August effectively displaces the Monday holiday even though it is only officially celebrated as a civic holiday in St. John's.

I found out through official stats ,CANADA is only second in the WORLD in "murders by guns"
Even our Catholic nuns are now armed with AK47's !
Would that be second least murders by firearms per capita?

Our military has guns, very big guns.
