It is the first time the Cardinals have changed managers during a season since 1995, when Joe Torre was replaced by Mike Jorgensen.

So yeah, the opposite of this.

The roster is filled with great young talent and a few veterans. Young pitchers who are pitching out of their mind. But Dexter Fowler is hitting negative 172, and up until recently, Kolton Wong was too. Pham in a down year, Holland is all of a sudden terrible, it's just too much to make excuses for. And also, Cards get thrown out on base more for dumbassery than any other team. It's not Cardinal baseball anymore.

Tank the season with an interim, then give Kevin Cash or Andy Green whatever they ask for.

After what I've read, makes sense to fire him.

Sometimes, teams that have a history of lots more winning, than losing, have to blame somebody.
Are Cardinals fans patient enough to become sellers and wait till next year?
Or, are they gonna get Joe Girardi?

Cubs have been atrocious this year and still 7 games ahead of cardinals

It's easier to fire the manager than trade or release 25 players.

But managers make decision that also influence a game of course they are not on the field playing but still have a influence. Do you mean in general managers 'do not win games'? Or just for baseball?

They're not, but they're gonna have to deal with it. We're not as old as we were a few years ago, but there are still too many older pieces we need to salvage.

As a Cards fan, I disagree. Get what you can out of guys who have value but aren't a part of the future of the team. A lot of Cards fans been calling for Matheny's head for a while now. The way the past few weeks have gone, it's definitely time to move on. As for who to replace him, give me Stubby Clapp. Guy has been extremely successful in AAA and players love him, he deserves a shot imo.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Mike Matheny has been hired by Kansas City as a special adviser for player development, putting the former St. Louis Cardinals manager in position as a possible successor to Royals manager Ned Yost.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Friday that Matheny will assist in scouting and player development. Like Yost, Matheny is a former major league catcher.

''It has always been our policy to hire the best baseball people we can, and this is the perfect example of that,'' Moore said. ''Mike has contributed so much to our game as both a player and a manager and has a wealth of knowledge that can only make us better.''
