#13'Culpable manslaughter' proceedings opened into the death of Fiorentina skipper Davide Astori
Prosecutors have opened a culpable homicide case over the death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori.
The 31-year-old Italy defender was found dead in his hotel room in Udine on Sunday, hours before his team were due to face Udinese in a Serie A fixture.
A post mortem will be performed on Tuesday with Astori’s funeral being held at the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence on Thursday morning, Fiorentina announced in a statement.
Initial reports suggested Astori’s death may have been the result of a cardiac arrest.
The chief prosecutor in Udine, Antonio De Nicolo, said on Monday that a culpable homicide case would be opened, but that it was a formality at this stage and that “no one has a responsibility for anything”.

#17After 15 years of taking care of people in ER’s, ICU’s, back of ambulances, cath labs and on helo’s, I’m constantly Reminded of two truths
Just how fragile humans can be, and how resilient others are
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum. Recently we had a young 30 something year old mother that came to us post partum and she subsequently went into full blown heart failure, required 8 IV drips, a ventricular assist device and a breathing tube to keep her alive (maximal life support). On top of that, all 4 of her extremities were compromised and in danger of potential amputation. She came to us from another hospital that made multiple mistakes along the way. She also had a blood infection.
I checked on her today and all the IV drips are off, she’s awake and talking and all of her extremities made it. She showed me a video of her healthy one week old baby at home.... brought tears to my eyes, she’s about to go home and enjoy a life time of taking care of her baby girl, and Just one week ago she had a 10% chance of surviving.
On the other end, I’ve seen two people die from every day shit. One laid flat, had some trouble breathing and never recovered. That’s it, he just laid flat. She had an illness that makes it difficult to lay flat and breathe but to lay flat, say “I’m not breathing well” and then die about 10 seconds later is ridiculous.
Anyways, sorry about thread hijack and the rant, your post just reminded me of the two realities I see every day

#18Probably a drug overdose or got wacked by a jealous x lover. Something smells fishy.
It's rare a person let alone a star athlete at the age of 31 has a sudden heart attack or just dies of natural causes in a hotel room for no reason.. Just saying...Comment -

#21Jibs is cognitively and intellectually lazy. I think he is smart but for too long he has followed the law of least effort, basically he is so used to putting zero thought into anything that certain parts of his brain have atrophied.
He’s your typical emotional, impulsive, shallow thinker type, very reactive, not very intellectual or academic. He’s prone to read nothing more than the title of an article and already have his mind made up on the subject.
He’s not alone, it’s a common phenomenon these days. And it’s not irreversible, he has simply fed his lazy brain and neglected the part of his brain that would normally do the heavy lifting.
Again, for a long time he has fallen victim to the law of least effort. It’s easy to have an opinion. It’s a lot harder to fact check that opinion, validate that opinion and defend it. That is the part of his brain he has neglected.
And really, he probably doesn’t even realize it, he’s not self aware because our brains don’t work that way. Very few people are truely introspective and self aware, it’s always easier to point out flaws in others thinking (or perceived flaws) than it is to admit you have a flaw in your thinking.
He has an opinion and because he is a lazy thinker, he comes to a conclusion impulsively avoiding logic to validate it, so he hunts for snippets to justify his position, basically the scientific method in reverse, or scientific method for dummies.
And he’s no different than most (Brooks, dwight, magaman, and many others here suffer from it as well), we’re all prone to these flaws and we’re all prone to being intellectually lazy, he just doesn’t know what he doesn’t know, he’s blind to his own blindness.
I think d2bets, Thor, Dante, Roy bacon, guitarJosh, even Kermit are great examples of highly intelligent and engaged individuals that defend their beliefs with logical arguments.
But overall he’s a good guyLast edited by The Kraken; 03-06-18, 07:03 AM.Comment -

#31Drugs are a possibility but it wouldn’t be as uncommon as you think for a 31 year old to have a heart attack and die. You just never hear about all the 31 year olds that do have heart attacks because 1.) most aren’t famous and 2.) you don’t work in medicin

#33It's more likely a fine tuned athlete tries an upper drug and that gives them a heart attack.. A drug like cocaine.. Body is fined tuned machine when you are pro athlete and if you introduce drugs for the first time the heart can race like crazy and even stop.
A soccer player like this guy runs all day.. Fine tuned machine... Not likely his heart will just stop on it's own.. Usually their can be signs leading up like shortness of breath, sharp chest pains, unusual fatigue if you have a heart problem..
I'm pretty sure these star athletes get checked up regularly by the team doctors as well..
I say it's drugs that stopped his heart.. I'd bet on it at even odds...
