I'd love to hear good handicappers' thoughts. Please let me know how you approach this small bankroll and make it grow. 5$ bets seem pointless maybe 20 but what do you all think

#4$5 is overbetting. Stick to $1, if your bankroll is $100. If you don't have the discipline to do this with a small bankroll, how can you hope to succeed when you have a large bankroll?

#5I'm a bit of a noob so what I say probably doesn't mean anything lol. Just want to share my thoughts anyways because this was exactly how I started out. I started with $100 a few months ago, and I've built it up to over $2.5k total over both the sites I joined. To be honest, I agree that $5 and under bets are a total waste of time. This is probably hilarious to the 'experts', but I started out doing the following:
I'd make 1 or 2 $10-$20 single bets on NHL favorites that I had good knowledge of and followed closely - usually between -110 to -150 odds. 7 or 8 times out of 10 these bets would win. I'd then use some of the proceeds from these games to make 2 and 3 team parlays, also on teams which I had been following closely. Pretty quickly I won a a few small parlays and my roll was at 300. After a few weeks of feeding parlays from my single bets, I won a $20 parlay on 3 dogs that I was fairly confident about given the circumstances (FL, PHX and NJ in round 1). This bet was $20 for $270 and this was where I finally passed the $500 mark. After this I started using better bankroll management. I'm sure I will get flamed for 'how lucky I got', blah blah, but I just wanted to share my strategy anyways because it worked twice for me (I did roughly the same thing when I joined my second book). To me, managing a small roll is just about betting only on games that you are highly knowledgable and confident about (not just betting on everything you read is a good bet). Then once you get to $500 or so you start to get a little bit more freedom. Probably not what you were looking for but..food for thoughtComment -

#7Bets way is to put it in the bank at 1% interest a year. Wait 231.4 years. Or alternatively, don't bet parlays and figure out where you have an edge.Comment -

#8I love how most people on here seem to be 100% certain that they are right no matter what they're talking about. To me, ridiculously strict bankroll management is not necessary when dealing with a roll this small, because you can always reload in the off chance that you do lose it before you build it up a bit. That being said, I definitely wouldn't take anything away from someone who is willing to use strict BM at these kind of stakes - it will just be slow as hellComment -

#11I am not a pro either but betting 5% of such a small bankroll is pointless. The way I see it, if you really want to follow a good money management then you should wait and deposit more and stick to 1-5%. If you chose to go with a small bankroll (100), pick your spots and bet 50$ per bet and hope you go on a nice run. Of course if betting 2$ per game excites you then you should be ok following a good BM with your current deposit. Best advice I can give you is wait until you can start with a higher bankroll.
Best of luck to you.Comment -

5-0 gives you 1600 and you have 32 tries at it before you are out 1600$ ...

Those are great books even though you may think it's all obvious after at least 6 years doing this
My criticism of Wong is that he tells you what to do when you think you have a +EV bet instead of telling you how to do the hard part: finding +EV bets
Yao does better with the data analysis/tables he provides and J7/Hungarian mathematician do a similar thing for RL conversions (though I'd caution about using a discrete table for anything more than a guide)
Still feel there isn't a good book out there for how to hunt for EV and strategy for signing up at books and getting max value out of them.Comment -

#23i will say this..
many believe in repeated small bets as a % of bankroll,
and that will NEVER hurt you. Never bet more than 25%
on any bet, ever. Rookie mistakes include betting more on
a game because it's a playoff game. But repetition of small
bets and searching for value is not the way to win. The way
to win is to pick your games with care. You don't need action
every single day. Look at the schedules and plan ahead. Make
sure you know everything influencing the players. Motivation,
Injuries, etc. So, bet sparingly and don't chase. If you lose, don't
bet another game just to hurry up and make it all better. Wait for
the next matchup you really have a strong lean on.
The best sports gamblers I've ever known made far less bets
than the habitual ones, but they won. Not too many can say that.
Cash out when you win. Don't wait to get to $1000. If you make $300,
take out $100. Like when you're at the track, winners go in one pocket
and stay there until you leave. But you don't cash winners and blow
them again.Comment -

#26all you need is luck , if you wanna get there in a short time.
The bad thing is when you got luck, and when you reach 1000, it will be difficult to turn into more conservative, better bankroll management, and you will be continuing with your luck. sooner or later you will be bankrupted
so better to learn disciplined bankroll management from the beginning, without aiming 1000. When you will have more money to deposit, you will have the best asset...that is "discipline of bankroll management"Comment -

#28It's easy to make 1k from $100, i made 4,8k from $150 in few days. The answer to your question is: multibet/parlay.
I don't see the point of $1 or $5 bets if you want to start from 1000$...it's impossible. You have to bet at least 40$-50$ in multibets and hope you're lucky. Don't be afraid to risk big - that's the only way you can win 1k in short time.
And definitely keep in mind what Makman said. That's 100% true - i lost it all in less than 1 week, because it was extremely hard to change my bankroll management.Comment -

#31I would do a 3 game sweep based system starting with 2-4% of my bankroll. Do a 1-2-4 unit progression. Ex.
2$ first game = win stop and start over
2$ first game =loss double
4$ second game= win stop and start over
If loss, double to 8$ if you win you are up 2$ if you lose down 8$ and then start over at 2$
Simply, play til you win but no more than 3 games. The key is finding games to place in the system. Maybe take 1 top handicappers free picks and run a 3 game series from him. It will take time, but as your bankroll grows, increase bet to 2-4% of your roll. I use this system religiously. I have not had a losing year since. Moreso, I have been doing very well. I use the cutting edge sports picks baseball system and am up +97 units thus MLB season.Comment -
