Dengue is probably what you are thinking about.... but it is super rare in the valley (san jose) its more out on the coasts

Food at the american restaurants like outback, chilis, pf changs, hooters, etc is comparable in price to what it is in the US, perhaps a little more expensive.

We are as expensive as traveling to New York or San Francisco. A small "restaurant" or hole in the wall will be about $5.50 for lunch or dinner and if it's anything with an "american" brand, expect to pay twice the price.

No immunizations needed, you are in the city and the only way you will get bitten is if you are into that sort of thing....
