I totally agree. Cincinnati and Memphis would certainly be the two front runners if the Big 12 were to expand. Those two plus West Virginia, Iowa State and the two Kansas schools make up a perfect division. With the 4 Texas schools and the two Oklahoma schools making up the second division, the Big 12 has a very logical North/South Conference. Now we shall see exactly how much pull the OU President has. His school is the new Texas.

Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby announced that an analytics firm found that adding two teams would increase the league’s odds of reaching the four-team College Football Playoff by 4-5 percent.

Bowlsby and the Big 12 hired Navigate Research, a Chicago-based analytics firm, to conduct the study, which included running 40,000 simulations. "This was the best outcome," Bowlsby said. At this point, it's a matter of time before the Big 12 adds a pair of schools to get back up to 12 teams. Who will those schools be? The American Athletic Conference's Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF and Houston have all been discussed, as has the independent BYU. Memphis and Cincinnati in particular are known to be lobbying hard for Big 12 membership. University of Memphis president M. David Rudd has sent pro-Memphis material to Big 12 higher-ups, namely Texas administrators. The Longhorns have reportedly held up expansion for financial reasons and influenced Texas Tech and TCU to do the same. Texas AD Mike Perrin publicly states that he's keeping an open mind.

Cincinnati is a nice bridge between West Virginia and the rest of the conference. They would have to expand their stadium's seating capacity. Other teams from the ACC to consider are Memphis and East Carolina. No team from Texas will be considered, nor will Tulsa.

Thank you. They really don't have anything to offer. It doesn't add a big media market or recruiting base and all Boise brings is a decent football team which probably wouldn't have the same success if they had to play better teams week in and week out.

As a fan a graduate of OU, I don't see any available teams that would help this conference other than BYU and I highly doubt they'll stop being Independent anytime soon.

Cincy and Houston are decent programs but lets be real, they don't come close to replacing Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Missouri.

The Big 12 is a disaster. If OU and Texas left this league it basically become what the Big East was like 5 years ago.

"I really would love to see our football play at that level, be playing in a P5 conference," Holmoe said. "I want our players ... in all of our sports to be able to play at the highest level." While the university is interested in a Power 5 future, Holmoe added that BYU would not be adjusting their statute barring competition on Sundays (for religious reasons). The Cougars could join the Big 12 if that conference ever opts to expand (maybe? someday?), but Holmoe is not lobbying for his team's inclusion. He believes their achievements more than speak for themselves. "It's in our best interest not to be pushing the envelope," he said. "They're well aware of what we've done."

I think you also have to look at the other sports, or at least that is the excuse conferences use. Currently, Cincinnati is 18-7 in hoops. Memphis is 14-10. Cincinnati certainly has a good enough record to join the "Big Dance" this season. Boise State does not do much ion any other sport and they also have a very small stadium. We all know about BYU's problems.

i think their refusal to play on sundays hurts them. Not so much in football but when you consider the other sports such as basketball and baseball it could cause a problem.

The Big 12 will explore expanding by two or four schools and has instructed commissioner Bob Bowlsby to evaluate universities interested in joining.It was only a few weeks ago that the conference was emphatically denying an interest in expanding, but we've seen a radical sea change in the past 24 hours. SI's Pete Thamel tweeted that Tuesday's takeaway was that "expansion is likely." The Big 12, currently sitting at 10 teams, has a gamut of suitors dying to get into a Power 5 conference. That list is headlined by Houston, BYU, Boise State and Cincinnati. Other interested parties include Colorado State, Memphis, Central Florida and South Florida. Bowlsby told the media that the Big 12 board "saw the path forward clearly and has taken steps. We need to look at it logistically and put a plan together."

Now that the Big 12 is apparently set on expanding, these non-con games take on a new meaning for the teams wanting in:

9/03. Houston vs Oklahoma at Reliant Stadium
9/17. Memphis vs Kansas
9/24. BYU vs West Virginia at Fed Ex field.

All three of these teams have more than a good chance of being selected by the Big 12 if they expand. All three of them can play their way into the Big 12, to an extent. The Memphis-Kansas game is critical to Memphis, who makes a good go-between West Virginia and the rest of the Conference, has a good stadium, and has some big time money behind it (Federal Express). A win over an existing Big 12 team, no matter how bad that team is, can be a huge stepping stone into the conference.

With four teams from Texas already in the conference, a win for Houston over Oklahoma is almost a must. If the Big 12 expands to 12 teams, the four current Texas teams and the two teams from Oklahoma make up the perfect Big 12 "South" if you will. Every team being considered except for Houston would fit into a Big 12 "North".

BYU has all kinds of issues to settle, but there is no doubt that this team can compete with most in the Big 12. Just ask Texas (0-2 in 2013-14). They also have a big stadium and a big fan following. They have been a very successful team over the past 10 years.

B12 commish: There are lots of 'eager buyers'


Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said Wednesday that it's "a sellers' market— and we’re the sellers, and there are a lot of eager buyers."

Bowlsby's comments come one day after the Big 12 presidents unanimously approved exploring expansion. Speaking of those buyers, Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel wrote that the "leaders in the clubhouse for Big 12 expansion remain BYU, Cincinnati and Connecticut." According to Thamel, the secondary tier being considered includes South Florida, Central Florida, Memphis, Colorado State, Houston, Boise State and Tulane. "Schools like Temple, San Diego State and Northern Illinois don’t really have a chance, but will give it a shot anyway," Thamel wrote. A Big 12 source told Thamel: "They’re going to open it up like an auction. They don’t want it to be like they’re out there soliciting schools."

Let see uc has dominated the conference memphis is in football the last 20 years. They have had to play them the last 2 years missing their starting qb and lost. Before they made the bad hire of tuberville; uc is the best of the also runs. They play in better marketing city for the conference and lot more money. More top fortune companies.
