Pointbet management response to News wire
Pointbet management has asked that we post this update. .

    "Hi Bill,

About the last information which SBR note about Pointbet from members :
    8/22/2005 3:09:00 PM

SBR Bill Dozer reports: Pointbet (SBR rating D+) frozen-account complaint (reported 8/14/2005) resolved. Pointbet attributes the problem to difficulties with AOL email and has provided a record of emails sent to the player. Bettors continue to complain about the changes the book is employing, saying that communicating with customer service has become very difficult. Pointbet’s live chat is not functioning and Pointbet’s homepage is now a login page that only offers an email address. American sports bettors no longer appear to be a priority for Pointbet. Players with questions are being told to call back at 11 pm for customer service. A clerk told SBR that Pointbet is updating its system and that players looking to sign up should return in one month. It is unclear if Asian players are also experiencing a lower level of service.

For this moment, everyone who want to communicating with the Customer services Dept. can go to the livechat support at the Pointbet homepage, email and internal message at Pointbet account. The most effective is through the Internal message at the Pointbet account inside.

Pointbet livechat is working properly to be a help support for Pointbet members and there are no problem with the livechat function. We always have this function to help our members.
And about the email, Customer services always make respond to member's email with the longest delayed respond about 20 - 30 minutes. And if there are no respond that's must be a problem accrue between the Pointbet mail server and the members email provider. Like AOL email, we have some user who send an email with this email provider and we received it, but when we respond them, the members never received our email, so members think that we are not respond their email.

Pointbet's homepage now already back to normal, yes on August 1 until 30 August 2005, only Pointbet's member can see the Pointbet inside. But now everything is work properly, everyone who want to check first about the Pointbet inside, can see it first without registered. But off course there are some menu which just allowed for members.

And also at the same period August 1 until 30 August 2005, Pointbet didn't open the site for new register because at that time Pointbet should manage an upgrade database and system so we didn't accept a new members at that time, but everything is back to normal again after the maintain have done.

And about the "Player with question are being told to call back again at 11pm for customer services" it's absolutely not correct, because every customer who have question just can go to the customer services Dept. so if there are no customer services so they wouldn't be anyone who told the members to call again at 11pm. who can said to the customer to back at 11pm if there are no customer services whereas just the customer services Dept. can have connection to the members.

And Pointbet never make this sentence to members who need a help from Pointbet. Because if we got a livechat connection, email or internal message through their Pointbet account then we will help the members to investigate about there problem or question immediately"

I would be interested to know why Pointbet got so poor rating. Is that because you don't consider them reliable as they are not based in a safe country? Or why do you rate them at such poor grade?

          Fred,

Pointbet has some talent as a bookmakers. They certainly have a jump on US bookies with the Euro sports. But, yes, their location is a concern.
Pointbet believes they can avoid stepping on the wrong toes and operate in a way that is beneficial for their surroundings. However, they couldn't tell us that operating in Indonesia is not a liability. There is a reason they say they are located in the British Islands. Securing a new or 2nd home would result in a sigh of relief for those with a stake in the company.

SBR Bill Dozer Reports: Pointbet Downgraded from C- to D+ due to concerns over the sportsbook’s location. Pointbet tells players that they are operating from the British Virgin Islands. However, SBR has confirmed that the sportsbook is operating illegally from Batam Island, which is part of Indonesia. These concerns are highlighted by the recent disappearance of Asian sportsbook Game2Bet (SBR not rated) and sister book AsianOdds (SBR not rated). There are unconfirmed reports that the operation was taken offline by government authorities. It should be noted that the majority of the feedback from Pointbet customers has been positive. SBR is hopeful that Pointbet will eventually choose a new location that is tolerant of gaming activity.

Out of interest, what do you think the punter could hope for if Pinnacle, say, went belly up.

I apprecaite that Pointbets location means that there are high risks on that alone and that Pinny's only real risk may be its own book-keeping, but I do wonder about having my money in a company in Coraco and what safeguards really exist in the worst case scenario, do you think?

pags ... there are VERY popular for soccer with Europeans and Asians. They are one of the highest profile online books in the UK.

Batam is very close to Singapore - Im sure I have sailed past it on a ferry and its like 20 miles or something - they have a regular commuting workforce goes from there to Singapore. Im guessing gambling is illegal in Singapore so they wont move those miles.

But I wont touch them because, yes, its not even they are unstable but that whole country. Indonesia must be just above Chechna as far as security goes.

interesting that it is such a popular book in Europe, but not so popular here...guess people over there look for different things in a book...

Best soccer odds in the market will definately appeal to europeans. They also have very huge limits so they have lots of big time players. Their location is the only concern, but they've been online for almost 3 years now, so for me there's not much concern. I withdraw frequently and don't keep my whole bank there, just the amount i need for the current weeks bets. Also Always been paid in timely manner.

Edit: btw, they're also good on american sports. Lines are as good as in pinnacle. comparing todays nhl lines in pinnacle and pointbet:

                      Pointbet Puckline moneyline
                      Florida Panthers +1.5 1.50 2.58
                      New Jersey Devils -1.5 2.83 1.60
                      Pinnacle
                      Florida Panthers +1.5 1.498 2.580
                      New Jersey Devils -1.5 2.830 1.595
                      Pointbet
                      Boston Bruins +1.5 1.45 2.23
                      Montreal Canadiens -1.5 3.03 1.75
                      Pinnacle
                      Boston Bruins +1.5 1.441 2.250
                      Montreal Canadiens -1.5 3.070 1.741
                      Pointbet
                      Phoenix Coyotes +1.5 1.62 2.91
                      Edmonton Oilers -1.5 2.51 1.47
                      Pinnacle
                      Phoenix Coyotes +1.5 1.621 2.910
                      Edmonton Oilers -1.5 2.510 1.474
                      Pointbet
                      Chicago Blackhawks +1.5 1.65 2.82
                      Vancouver Canucks -1.5 2.43 1.51
                      Pinnacle
                      Chicago Blackhawks +1.5 1.671 2.820
                      Vancouver Canucks -1.5 2.390 1.508

Pretty darn good odds. Both of them have few marginally better odds but the juice seems to be about the same. In case your not familiar with european odds format, just multiply your stake with the value. For example $100 x 2.43 = $243

                            Thanks for reply Bill!

I thought that was the reason for your low rating. Still considering to start betting there.
