Is Mike Singletary off his rocker?
    I thought this was interesting.

49ers don't want Stafford because he won't open up to shrink

There are a number of reasons an NFL team wouldn't draft a certain quarterback. Maybe they'd be concerned about his arm strength, or footwork, or accuracy, or football IQ. There are literally dozens of flaws a signal caller might have. The San Francisco 49ers have found a new one.

Reports say that Mike Singletary and the Niners won't draft Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford because he was reluctant to talk to a team psychologist about his parent's divorce. Said Singletary:

"If you're going to look at drafting a guy in the first round, and you're going to pay him millions of dollars, and asking him about a divorce about his parents, if that's going to be an issue, uhhh, then you know what, maybe he doesn't belong here."

This line is too good to exclude from same article:

"The concern about psychology is especially strange coming from Singletary, who attempted to motivate his team last year by dropping his pants before giving a half-time speech. I'm pretty sure he got that idea from Freud."

As if Strafford will be available at #10 anyway?

      He'll probably get Sanchez though.

Strange thinking about a prospect. Lots of big timers have came from problematic parental issues I am certain.

I fail to see the relevance to his football ability. From what I understand they split during high school, he's clearly enjoyed tremendous success on the field since then.

Would be interesting if Stafford did slip to #10, would Singletary keep his word and not draft him? I doubt it, but he won't slip that far.

Mental strength is more important at the QB position than any other.

Depression is a serious illness and can have an enormous adverse effect on a player.

Stafford likely thought that the questions were ridiculous, off-base, and intrusive. Can't say he's wrong.

But from Singletary's perspective, a potential high draft pick should be willing to do anything to impress teams that are interested in him, including prove his mental stability. If Stafford is largely unaffected by the divorce, in theory, he should be more than happy to prove that by answering a few question. His avoiding the questions make it look as though he is hiding something; which raises a red flag.

I don't really see anything wrong on either side here. Stafford has every right to avoid personal questions that have nothing to do with football, and Singletary has every right to evaluate the mental stability of his players if that is something that is important to him that he feels will translate to more wins on the field. Stafford and Singletary are not a good fit, and now they know.

I can see where Mike is coming from, they guy might have weak character and then he will be a flop in NFL, if he cannot handle a divorce in his family he is weak.

Best players in NFL are guys that could commmitt murder and the play a game and not be effected. Big Time sports are for ghettos boys that are ruthless.

If I was Stafford, I wouldn't want to go to the 49ers either. Graveyard for QBs.

Sad but true, I love the 49ers and I grew up going to candlestick and watching the greats Montana and Young... with this post comes a sad realization for myself....god damn it, the 49ers blow, Alex Smith was never the same after entering the gay bath houses that RScholar and JJ talk about. Garcia must have introduced him to these towel dropping establishments fuuuukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!
