Same here, having possums in your backyard around these parts is like saying grass grows on the ground. They're everywhere, and I have to put my cat food outside next to the doghouse so he'll prevent them from freeloading (my girl kitty sleeps outside in the summer so I have to leave her a midnight snack). They're pretty cool little creatures, much less destructive than raccoons. As far as I can tell they don't hurt anything, and they've even made friends will two of the cats. Live and let live, I say.

Wow! A 50-pound possum?! That's one big possum, probably a record-setter. The biggest possum I've seen around my place probably goes 15-18 pounds and might be two feet from nose to the end of its tail. But even at 50 pounds, not much to fear from them here in the states. That cigar or cigarette will come closer to hurting you than that possum will.

Man, I'd never let a raccoon get anywhere near my face like that. Those sum'bitches are mean and destructive. Worst thing a possum or armadillo will do is dig holes, maybe ransack a garden. Coons are just downright nasty and tear shit up.

Unless it's rabid; if you see it during the day...shoot it. If you see it at night...shoot it.

ain't that the truth, i remember the neighborhood i grew up in , there was a dude who's family had one in a big cage on the side of their garage in the carport. that fukker was mean as hell, probably cause of the cage

, anyway that thing was just flat out scary.

Coons can get to 50 lbs if I am not mistaken; saw one behind a bar running out of a trash dumpster. Looked like a bear cub

MY home backs up to airforce base here in Alabama.. i got the bases fence and my fence and they feed in the dumpster on base which is rite smack in the middle of my yard...i have to get up all the time and take a bat or shovel and push it off the fence .. they will bite if cornered.. the reason i have to go out and push off the fence , my chinese sharpei dog will tree it so it will not move and the opposum / does what it does best ,it just plays opposum...my dog will work her self into a frenzy till i go and push off fence line.. she has killed a few as well if they don't reach the tall fence before they are treed..can be a nuisance , just have to do this on regular basis.. a boar coon will get to like 40lbs but never has a oppposum ever that i've heard of reached 50lbs.. if it is that big call or get you a cage to trap it .. would be biggest marsupial in america..
