Anyone here see the Behind The Scenes program on ESPN a few days ago that did a segment on unscrupulous card-autograph dealers who either show up at card shows personally or their forged products do?Talk about an easy money racket where there is no authority to prove that you aren't selling what you say you are selling. One legitimate dealer said that in his opinion,60% of the autographs at shows are bogus.

Everyone knows someone that is an artist type that's good at penmanship.Talk about an easy way to make big money fast.Has anyone here ever bought autographed merchandise at a good price they later had suspicions about?

How many people actually got nabbed and sentenced over the years for autograph-card signing and sports memorabilia fraud?I never googled it but I haven't really ever heard of anyone going to prison for it.The most famous sports memorabilia case was the OJ case not having anything to do with that side of the business.

Are there any avid collectors and card show attenders here?Has the market been devastated with a double whammy due to the fraud and the terrrible economic conditions?

Used to collect cards hardcore, the only one I'd ever buy that was autographed is out of a pack and listed in Beckett etc. I have acauired a few autographs myself over the years but would not give them up even if I was broke

Actually the most famous was the Mastro Incident at the last National last year. Major stuff going on right now.
