I guess they're not using English.

I was betting 150 to win 100, but telling someone "I'm betting $100" means to me risking $100. Otherwise, you'd say "betting to win $100", but I'm not up on bookie lingo.

Offshore might be like that, but TRADITIONAL bookmaking "lingo" is as follows:

I want to bet $500 on Boston -3 -110.

If you win you got $500 and if you lost, you lost $500 PLUS the vig.

That is the standard way.

That's not what the words mean, though. It's twisting it.

I know the standard is bet to win a certain amount when betting -, but the fact is that "betting", in English, means what you're risking, not what you would stand to win.

When I bet, I say the amount I risked. "I bet $500 on the Bison" = I risked $500 on the Bison, not I risked $550 on the Bison.

I'm not arguing about how bookies interpret it. I'm just saying what it would logically mean.
