In live betting on the NHL game after 2 periods, with the score 4-0 Boston, the following lines were available:
3rd period only, Vancouver -145
Full game, Vancouver +3.5 goals, +115
The lines were 60 cents different for a wager that required exactly the same outcome, Vancouver winning the 3rd period by at least a goal. Had the score remained the same, or as it turned out, Boston outscored Vancouver, both wagers would lose. Would this be a "bad" line for those that would have taken the second wager?
If you bet Vancouver ML, it'd be a push if the two teams scored the same amount of goals. Remember, some ML wagers can push. Just like if you bet NBA first half ML and the two teams scored the same amount.
If you bet +3.5, you're betting Vancouver -.5 goals for the third.
I was live betting at 5 Dimes and none of the lines posted between the 2nd and 3rd were bad lines.
In the Vancouver ML, you can push that one if neither team scores (that's why the odds are lower)
In the 2nd bet, Vancouver needs to score one more goal than Boston in the 3rd (either 1-0, 2-1, etc) in order for you to win. If that doesn't happen, the bet loses = better odds.
