Info for Saturday MLS Game 3/26/11

Let me start off by saying that I am bias for my team.

This Saturday the Union (-143) will roll over the Whitecaps at PPL park in front of an already sold out crowd of 18,500 raving idiots.

Why?

VANCOUVER IS MISSING 5 STARTERS. 2 of their starting CB's and 3 of their Midfielders are out for the game as well as their biggest scoring threat Demirett. As well as their only Union alumni Salinas.

For Philly Best XI player Le Toux is no longer nursing his injured ankle and led the MLS in home goals last year. The Union only lost 3 games at PPL park last year in which 2 of them were against much more dominant sides in LA and RSL.

Fayrd Mondragon our new captain and starting GK posted a clean sheet on the road in KC last week while KC had 66% of the possession!!!

This one may be a sweater type game as the weather will be cold with a chance for rain/snow so look for a 1-0 win by the Union as they will control possession and keep heavy pressure on a crippled Vancouver defense.

This line was posted 2 days ago and since then it has not budged even with the mounting injury news to Vancouver.

The Union didn't play KC last week...they played Houston which is slightly different. Also they scored in the 5th minute and their tactics were more defense oriented which caused the numbers to climb in Houston's favor, hence the more shots on goal/time of possession. As the recap stated "On the road and up a goal, the Union were content to concede possession often dropping nine or 10 players behind the ball" Hence your 66% comment really is smoke and mirrors, but it does say something about the GK as he had to be solid in Goal.

The Union have the better side and the home crowd on their side, but they need to become more offensive in nature to not let Vancouver think they can win.

I like this pick, the Union are a much better home team than road and this is Vancouvers first road game in the MLS ever so we'll see.

The big note I took from Philly's first two games is they'll be challenged on the road to score goals for sure...might be able to find some nice prices on teams and unders in the future

it seems as if Mondragon has made a massive difference already... which is amazing to see just two games into the season. agree.
