This is a pretty good post. You're right. Powers-that-be set this thing up to gouge.
Count the # of expenses. You run out of fingers and toes.
My one bit of sage advice. Separate those costs into Essential vs Non-Essential. You should be able to knock out many of those.
I'll point out one example. Cost of owning an Automobile is outrageous. Count up the costs associated to owning that Auto:
1) Down payment.
2) Monthly payment.
3) Auto insurance.
4) Property Tax (in most states).
5) License fee.
6) Gas.
7) Standard maintenance/repairs.
If someone can ever get by on Public Transit, Walking, and Biking...try it. You'll save a bundle.
