I wonder why we even call them the Christian right, really we should call them right wing christians. These sad misguided folk were used by conservative politicians since at least desegregation. but it really picked up with Regan (evangelicals supported abortion pre Regain), since then they cant even be considered a religion, they are a tool of the Republication party so far removed from the teaching of Christ they have swallowed whole even the latest full fascist reincarnation of said GOP.
