You are correct in your assessment of high risk, low return. Just by saying that you know it is not a good idea. In stating that only 6-12% of home teams get swept, other factors around that still exist. If the home team lost their first two games, you are relying on the last game to get you out of a hole to break even, not the best way to make money.
You could probably try a derivative of this system, but I think it would be tough to make a significant profit.
