How To Set Up Basic SBR Contest

Go to SBR Contests homepage at https://contests.sportsbookreview.com/ and click “Start League” tab on upper left to advance to General contest page.

    General

Contest Name: If your plan on repeating these contests either weekly or monthly, we recommend adding either a date, month or week number to the title. Some examples would be MLB Weekly 8/26, NBA December Contest or NFL Contest Week 7.

    Start/End Date:
The important thing to remember here is that if you segment your contest into weekly rounds, the day of the week that the contest starts will be the day of the week all weeks of the contest start. Therefore, if contest includes NFL, we strongly recommend starting the contest on a Tuesday so that every week will end with Monday Night Football. If you are setting up a continuous non-segmented contest, then just set the dates however you please.

    Hit “Next” for Advanced Options.

    Advanced Options

Round Duration: The Default is “Contest Duration”, which would be a continuous non-segmented contest without any rounds. If you choose “Every Week”, the contest would be broken up into weeks, such as full season NFL contest with weekly rounds. As mentioned earlier, if you choose this option, make sure the starting day in the General section matches your desired day to start each week. If you choose “Every Day”, each day would be its own round, such as a monthly MLB Contest where you want to cap the amount of daily plays to 5.

If you select any Round Duration other than “Contest Duration”, the following self-explanatory options would pop up and need to be filled in:

    Max Round Plays

    Min Round Plays

Next you will see Max Plays and Min Plays, and these refer to the ENTIRE contest. So, if you have a 17-week regular season NFL contest with a Max Round Plays of 5, then Max Plays would be 85 (17 x 5).

    Bet Range
: If you want every play of the contest to be rated, then the Bet Range is the maximum units allowed for each play. So, a Range of 5 means plays are rated 1-5. a Range of 3 means all plays are rated 1-3, and if you want all plays to be 1 unit (with no Best Bets), you set Range to 1.

If you want your contest to include Best Bets, then Bet Range MUST be 1. More on Best Bets in a bit.

    Base Betting:
If Base Betting is set to “Yes” then bets will be “To Win” if odds are minus (i.e., -130 for 1 unit would be 1.30 to win 1.00) and “Risk” if odds are plus (i.e., +145 for 1 unit would be 1.00 to win 1.45). If Base Betting is set to “No” then ALL bets would be “Risk”. The “No” would be recommended for football and basketball contests which include money lines, since it would discourage padding records with monstrous money line favorites as -500 would be 1.00 to win 0.20 as opposed to the Base “Yes” option of 5.00 to win 1.00.

    Best Bets Required:
The default is 0, which means no Best Bets allowed. If you want to have Best Bets, you would change the total to the number of Best Bets you want per ROUND, except for “Contest Duration” contests where the total would represent the number of Best Bets allowed over the entire contest. The maximum number of Best Bets allowed is 5, so they are probably not ideal for long non-segmented contests such as Season-Long MLB.

If you choose any number of Best Bets other than 0, the following will pop up:

    BestBet Multiplier Value

Here you select how many units between 2 and 5 you want Best Bets to be worth. Remember that Best Bets are ONLY compatible with a Bet Range of 1, so regular plays all be for 1 unit.

    Point Entry Fee:
If you charge a fee to join the contest, as you should to make it a legitimate pool, the Betpoints are automatically deducted from SBR members as soon as they join a contest.

    Grading Method:
This is the grading method that the Standings will be based on, and it is self-explanatory for Units (the default), Winning Percentage and Total Wins. If you choose Action Points, grading will be based on how many points you either beat or lost to the line by. Action Points only apply to spreads and totals, so it is not a recommended method for Money Line contests.

Hit “Next” to get to Leagues.

    Leagues

This is where you choose the leagues and bet types you want to include in your contests. Just remember that “Sides” means run lines for MLB and puck lines for NHL.

Hit “Next” to get to Sportsbooks.

    Sportbooks

There are no other sportsbooks available at the present time than our General line provider, so just hit “Next” again to get to Preview.

    Preview

This is your last chance to review what you just did and go back and make changes if you choose to. If you are satisfied and wish to proceed, hit “Complete”. Just be extra careful that everything is correct, because some fields are uneditable later.

Congratulations, you have successfully created an SBR Contest! You can now invite fellow SBR members if you want to by clicking the “Manage Members” tab on the upper right and typing in their SBR handles. Enjoy!

They go into SBR bucket and then get distributed 100% when pool ends, SBR keeps nothing on pools.

I guess I’m not a newbie so wouldn’t let me start a thread, but is there a way to screenshot a bet from the SBR Book to put in a post when you’re on mobile?

    1. Can the prizes for 1st 2nd 3rd etc be customized? If so how?

    2. How can I get the orange join button on my thread? I tried copy/paste my pool URL address directly into the field asking for contest URL, but it keeps saying invalid SBR contest url.

No to both. Only mods can set up contest with customized prizes, those show up under "SBR Contests" if you do a search for one. Likewise, only mods can add Join Now button, and that is typically done only for SBR Contests or for pools commissioned by mods (i.e., the Weekly league pools I run myself).

Once bets are placed and confirmed in contests, is there any way to cancel the bets?

I accidently bet the wrong side and want to change it.
