    I was once told by a wise and successful sports handicapper/bettor that any place of gathering with gamblers is not good for MOST gamblers/bettors when it comes to winning long term and to avoid such places if you want to minimize your losses.

    not sure about the logic behind that. Learning from other's mistakes sounds like a pretty rational way of go about it.
