    raiders win .
    Newcastle Knights Canberra Raiders
READERS NOTE:No Comments are mine and if you want to talk to me then do so through the pm's.

I'll put these tips for Round 1 up as the Teams are announced and whether I like the Starts or not,the two I put on tonight are just h2h bets, this season I will give you one 10/10 a week and possibly a couple of 9/10's also, anything lesser than that and it means I think it will happen, but a 9 or 10 are the ones you should be looking for.

Saturday Night action in the NRL and the Knights look to start their season well at home as the Raiders roll into Newcastle looking to trample the Knights.

    Knights Squad:Gidley,**'Manus,Naiquama,MacDougal l,Vuna,Bailey,Mullen,Tolar,Buderus,Royal ,Houston,Taia,Simpson..Inerchange:Hilder ,Patterson,Fa'aoso,Wicks,Dureau,White,Lu lia (3 to dropped from bench)

    Raiders Squad:Zillman,Best,Graham,Monaghan,Purte ll,Campeze,Carney,Thompson,Withers,Logan ,Costigan,Turner,Tounge...Interchange:Ch alk,Tilse,Plum,Weyman.

The Knights had a season to forget last year, losing Jhons in Round one in the first 10 mins of the match, player discontent,a coach who was benching players and stalling players from acheiving personal milestones, this season and the Knights have recruited heavily and dropped plenty of players also,Smith remains as coach but as I look at this Knights side who I have already installed as Wooden Spooners this season in the Long term Bets market,I can't help but think if one or two players go down here this season could be a disaster for the Knights.even worse than last season.

Their backline is handy with Gidley and Mullen imparticular,Naiquama,Mad Dog MacDougall and **'Manus are hard runners and good finishers but it's not ther backline I see them strugling with this season.it's their forwards,Tolar,Royal,Houston and Taia will be targeted by other forward packs,Taia proved his worth last season but the others had limited game time and will use this season as their real testing period, their bench is not strong and Simpson and Buderus are getting past their prime now,I think the Knights Backline can keep them in matches but their Forwards will struggle, they will have the odd great game, but I would expect them to struggle against Bigger packs and from the team the Raiders have named for this match,I can see that the Raiders expect the same thing.

The raiders proved at stages last season that they can compete with anyone in this competition at home especially, but look at this Raiders line up and they is some real class in their backline and some very big hard Boys in their forward pack,Zillman is lightming quick and Best,Graham and Monaghan are all proven performers,in fact graham and Monaghan are a very good centre pairing in any side, both dtrong runners and both strong defenders and tacticaly very sound,Campeze and Carney form a very quick and competant halves pairing who can rip defences open and in their forward pack they have some real size with Thompson,Logan,Turner and Costigan and Allan Tounge backing up is excellent as a support runner, add in Withers in at hppker who is very quick and strong also and they have a decent pack for sure, but what makes them even more potent is their bench and reserve players, they have alot of competition for places in their forward ranks and the 3 reserve forwards on the bench in this game are all very, very good Tilse,Weyman and Plum are all strong runners, can all offload and can all hit hard add in Chalk and it forms a very good bench,I quite like this Forward pack for the Raiders.

These sides played twice last season with each side winning on their own patch,in Round 3 the Raiders smashed the Knights 48-18 in Canberra in what was one of the best performances of the season,Zillman and Costigan cut loose and tore them to shreds. In Round 14 the Knights got their revenge 22-18 in Newcastle.Canberra have lost their last two in nNewcastle but did win here 3 games ago in Rd 8,2005 10-14.

It's also intresting to note that in the last 5 seasons only 4 sides in the NRL have won 4 of their first 5 opening matches and only one has never lost, these two teams have won 4 and 3 of their opening round matches in their last 5 seasons, who can forget last year when the Bulldogs were up by 20 at halftime before the Knights stormed home to win 25-24. Newcastles last two opening round matches have both been in Newcastle and they have won both, last season against the Bulldogs and in 2006 they opened at home by beating the Eels 25-6.

4 of Canberras last 5 seasons have started away from Canberra and they have won 3 of those 4 matches and the match in 2005 was their bye,so they have only lost one of their opening matches in their last 5 seasons, last season they lost away to Manly 32-6,in 2006 they beat Manly at Brookvale 14-27,2005 was their bye as already said,2004 they beat St george away 12-21 and in 2003 they also travelled and beat North Queensland 14-46.

I like the look of this Raiders side and I like the look of their forward pack and bench, this match if the Knights can stay in it will beclose, the start has'nt been released as yet but with these odds I would imagine it would be around 6 ot 8 points start for the Raiders and if it is that high then i would say take it,the Knights don't rweally have any part of their team as any better than this Raiders side and the only thing really in their favour is that they are at home, and I think that might not even save them, take the start whatever it is on the Raiders and look for the outside very good odds win...Good Luck.
