Phil Taylor PDC World Championship
Wow. Just wow. Did anyone watch Phil Taylor vs Raymond Van Barneveld last night? 111 average and a demolition of RVB by Phil Taylor.
Much has been made of Taylors apparant demise. To be fair despite sitting 7th in the table Taylor still had the highest average of all the players. So what changed? Well Phil Taylor has never been a player to rest on his laurels and has always strived to improve himself despite being in a different league to the rest of the darting world for years.
He has often spoken about losing weight but oddly the one year he did lose a significant amount of weight his darts went a bit loopy. Bit concerned he is still mumbling about that.
This years big change however has been his darts. From slim darts that land in the board in a unique upwards direction he has changed to fatter and slightly heavier darts which to my eye go into the board at a far more conventional angle. After initially struggling with them he has shortened them and altered the angle he holds them at.
While adjusting to the new darts Taylor lost 3 premier league matches from 5 having never previous lost 1 in 44 games.
Last weekend he demolished the field in a tournament with a 107 average, last night he averaged over 111 to smash his own premier league record. This is clearly an ominous sign for the rest of the field as he is starting to get some consistancy at a very very high level.
There is not another player in world darts that can average over 107, Barney at his very best is a 105 man.
Now is the time to place your bet on Phil Taylor. The odds will only shorten as the year goes on. Phil Taylor loves for the PDC world championships. He has won it 11 times before (plus 2 WDC titles to make 13 in total) and has only ever lost 4 times in the world championships since 1995. I accept 2 of those were in the last 2 years (the final to Barney and a final set loss to Wayne Mardle) but the odds are just massive and warrant a very large ante post bet.
Pick : Phil Taylor to win PDC World Championships
Odds : 5.00
Stake : 9 / 10
