TUCSON, AZ – The Tucson Sugar Skulls (2-7) will host the Bismarck Bucks (6-5) on Saturday, July 24 at 6:05 p.m. MST at the Tucson Convention Center.
The Bucks are coming off a nail-biting win over the No. 2 ranked Frisco Fighters, while the Sugar Skulls suffered a narrow defeat to the Spokane Shock on the road last week. Saturday is also Sci-Fi night at the Boneyard. Dress up as your favorite Sci-Fi character for an opportunity to win prizes and more.
Jones'ing for Touches
Running back Mike Jones is on an impressive tear against opposing defenses of late. Jones has scored seven rushing touchdowns over the past two games.
The Sugar Skulls starting RB is currently tied for second in IFL rushing TDs with 15, third in scoring (122 PTS) and in his second IFL season is tied for first in total TDs (20).
Rookie QB Demry Croft also adds to the Sugar Skull rushing attack with the second-highest rushing yard total in the league (403). Croft's passing ability continues to impress by the week, and he's currently fourth-best in the IFL in passing yards (1,268) and tied for third in passing TDs (23).
No Passing Allowed
Defensive back Delondo Boyd is flat getting it done on the defensive end. Boyd owns a team-high 47 tackles on the season, which is good enough for twelfth in the league.
Fellow DB Matt Elam places one spot lower with 45 total tackles on the season, and Elam also leads the team in passes defended with eight through his first season in the IFL.
Defensive lineman Terrence Fullum added his second sack of the season against the Shock last week. That's good enough for the team lead this season. Fullum's two sacks are tied for seventh overall in the league, and he leads the Sugar Skulls defense in tackles-for-loss (3.0).
Bullying the Bucks
The Bismarck Bucks are led by running back Justin Rankin, who's done most of his damage on the ground this season. Rankin ranks fourth in the IFL in rushing yards-per-game (34.0) and leads a Bucks offense that's middle of the pack in most offensive categories.
The Bucks have had issues stopping their opponents scoring points, and that's reflected by their second worst scoring defense (48.8) and worst total defense (267.4) in the IFL.
Demry Croft and the Sugar Skull offense will look to take advantage of another Bucks poor defensive performance at the Boneyard this Saturday night.
